Please read the new forms correctly some answers are Yes, No, Sometimes If this is your first attempt please supply as much information re; your illness, Your Medication, and how you and your carer cope with day to day life use as much extra space as you need more is a lot better than not much at all. Contact your Advice or CAB office you Again P.I.P. want everything done a.s.a.p. don't let them hurry you but make sure you don't run out of time. Another thing that is confusing a lot off applicants are telling me that they don't have to fill them in as they were told years ago that this is a lifetime award, Then when they were sent out new application they just threw them in the Bin (Please Don't Do This) If you are still confused on this please call the number provided and they will tell you SO. Mines will take between 8-16 weeks to process or I will be called in for a on site interview or Medical. Thanks Mattcass.

I would add even when person comes to your home to asses your pip claim anything from walking to the toilet to answering your phone is counted against you

My advice is have friend career there with you have her him roll your sleeves trousers up so women can check for antropy

Is shocking but I would say on day they are round ask for copy of her claim report desion so you can pull up any discrepancies when if you appeal your pip award claim

I still feel that when answering, answer as if it were your worst day

E.g. give the worst that your condition is in any situation, after all that is the depth of your condition

in reply to ldwilliams

They ask us to say to state what is the average day because worst days may only be occasional and the rest of the time is what we actually live like. Like the claims on tv where they say they cant walk and are then filmed carrying kids and shopping etc. Maybe occasionally they really cant walk or lift and its their worst scenario so they put it down, then get seen and imprisoned for fraud.

The answer needs to be the average day or situation, its what has become the norm for us, not what is the occasional thing.. Please be careful x

Still on DLA, no sign of PIP forms, was hoping to get some help with housework, and cannot get out in this bad weather for food. Can I claim for someone to take me shopping/ do housework. Have not been out for 22 days. No one to help. Get a twice weekly food delivery but if something is missing that is that! Going to be left in dark soon as all my light bulbs are running out and cannot change them!

I personally would strongly recommend that you get help when filling in the forms as they are very tricky. I thought I was good at filling in forms and on first application was turned down and gave up. A year later my respiratory nurse insisted I reapply and I got a charity to help me fill out the forms and got the maximum PIP award. I was also given a carer's award. I didn't have to see anyone from PIP at all. It seemed it was all in the wording plus of course the backup from docs and consultant whom PIP contacted themselves. Just don't fill them in yourself unless you are very confident and make sure you take copies.

This is good sound advice butter-fly. We would always recommend getting someone to help you complete the forms, they can than help you with an appeal or tribunal if need be. There is a lot to be said for a well completed application, with phrases and terminology that the DWP recognise.

Here is a list of organisations that help, in person or over the phone.

The first form I filled in for DLA I did myself I thought the people who looked at these forms were medically trained so I just put down I was COPD stage 4 and also my lower back problems which I have spine blocks to help the pain. This took them over a year to look at and they did this because I went in to my job centre and the women I spoke to called them and reminded them of the guide lines for dealing with claims, they turned me down I think they had lost my claim form.

I went to my local breath essay group and I was put in touch with a charity who fill out forms for you this time my claim was looked at by Capita and it took about 4 months and I was awarded low mobility rate.

I would like to see the law changed in the way people with long term medical conditions are treated so someone with COPD who is not going to make a full recovery is awarded these benefits automatically.

I would advise to always get someone with the specialist knowledge to assist you with the forms, no matter how "educated" you are. If you live in the East of England it is worth getting in touch with the Papworth Trust or your local Citizens Advice Bureau. As previously informed always make sure you get the form completed within the timescale set, or contact DWP for an extension.

Make sure you have copies of all documentation relevant to your claim from your consultant and/or GP, and check whether they can write a letter to back up your claim. This will speed things up as the DWP may not have to go back to them for additional information.

Be prepared for the chance that you may be turned down in the first instance, but don't give up (that's what they want you to do) and remember to either ask for reconsideration, or take the claim to appeal if it is still refused.

Can't rate the Papworth Trust highly enough. They helped us no end with our Bedroom Tax campaign and later gave us a free holiday at their disabled-friendly farm in mid-Wales, which was our Grandson, Warren's first ever holiday.

The film is about us if you're interested :) youtube.com/watch?v=OFsCnOX...

Watched the video. Very interesting and I so admire what you and Sue are doing and how lovingly you look after Warren. Good luck with your campaign !

you can ask your doctor to write a letter to the adult contact team and tell him to refer you to someone in the adult team about getting a carer to come in and help you they do shop calls and cleaning and personal care so you can get them to help you
