The US government is trying to stop India making affordable medicines for the people who need them most - the poor.

President Obama’s visit to India in days could spell life or death for millions of poor people in Asia, Africa and Latin America, but if we move fast we can ensure they can still get the medicines they need.

India produces cheap HIV, malaria and cancer drugs, and also medications for copd and other lung diseases. But Big Pharma wants to stop this, to sell their own products at higher prices. Their fierce lobby has got the US to push their line hard, even threatening trade sanctions if India doesn’t change patent laws which put people before profits.

When i was first diagnosed with copd i used to visit the U.S. Efforts forum (Emphysema Foundation for Our Right to Survive) and many there without insurance regularly got their medication from India.

How absolutely typical. Can't afford to bomb and shoot them so they will remove medical aid. Disgusting

But it affects you guys over there too Rib. So much for Obamacare - I know its an improvement but it doesn't help those without insurance. And corporate power is killing everything.

Ok ok!!! i thought i saw somewhere you recently wrote that you lived in the U.S. At the time it confounded my assumption that you live here. Did i imagine it? Or just brain fog :o

Afraid not. I live near New York. Which is in Lincolnshire near Boston. As my Profile says, I am British born and bred and resident.

You may have noticed a reference to near by California, which is across the border in Norfolk. We take translators when we go there ☺

Hmmm, think i need a translator just to relate to the real world - thought you might be having a larf (you and your squirrels) so googled and there you are, well the village, and California next door. Learn something every day.

Anyway hope you've picked yourself up and didn't do too much damage rofloling ;)

I have sighed it but its so sad we are sending millions in aid and they have a space centre I think the Indian government should learn to prioritise

Sorry - replied without linking it to your comment :)

It's nothing to do with the Indian government onamission - its corporate pressure from Big Pharma in the U.S. which is being expressed by Obama on his visit to India.

Glad you signed anyway :)
