free dental treatment {or not}

my cousin is a carer for her father in law and receives care money but her husband is in full time employment. minimum wage. does anyone know if her care allowance makes her eligible for free dental treatment. cant find the answer anywhere.

Hi I have had a look but can't see anything. It gives a list of those who get free treatment automatically (on the NHS website) and carers aren't listed there so I think not. Also it is taxable. Did find a telephone number for you though from the NHS site - 0300 330 1343. Good luck. x

As they are both technically working they can apply for help with NHS costs, you have to complete a simple form and return it and then they let you have their decision. The form is called an HC1 and you should be able to collect one from the dental surgery.

Hi Natalyab, I receive pension credit and do get free dental, if your cousin's father in law receives the pension credit he will also get free dental and a percentage towards spectacles. Hope this helps. June

Sorry but the answer is no, I get carers allowance also, has your partner applied for working tax credit, because if your annual income is lower than £16,000 u can get a medical exemption card

natalyab If he receives care allowance, I should think he can have free eye test, and free dental care ( also wigs, and something else I forgot!)

I think your cousin is entitled to it because she needs to be healthy to look after somebody else.

Sorry I can't help I do get my dental treatment free because I have to go in to hospital for my treatment but I do have to pay for my prescriptions

Hello No Entitlement. However it is worth sending an HC2 form in this is for anybody on low income who doesn't automatically come under free entitlement. This also covers you for glasses

Even if you don't get full entitlement they will assess your income and may pay a proportion.

I don't know if you can obtain the form on line but this the form you need. It also covers students on low income.

Oops could be HC1, hc 2 is the form you receive with entitlement. Hc3 is if you have paid and you shouldn't have so allows a refund.
