Scampi For Supper And Drinking Blackberry Vodka...

Drizzle...I like that word. I've just drizzled oil over the veggies 'cos we're having roasted veg and scampi for supper...I know what you're thinking...'that's an odd combination...shan't be going to their house for supper' but there was a wizened parsnip just sitting there waiting to be eaten and a couple of sad looking carrots...so they've gone in the oven with some onion and cloves of garlic and a few small potatoes...

And I so like scampi, even after I'd read the packet instructions and blurb and it said they are scampi made from more than one scampi...and they were caught in the North Sea.

One of our daughter-in-laws...the one who lives near the Artic circle...she calls prawns and scampi the 'woodlice of the sea' and she won't eat them but she tucks into Moose. They can be very fierce apparently...I try not to think about it 'cos our son goes out shooting them.

She took their two dogs out for a walk the other day and heard Wolves howling in the forest...now call me a wimp if you like...but if I was to hear Wolves howling, I'd go straight back home and shut all the doors. And the temperature was something quite silly...said the hairs in her nose froze.

Anyway we're having scampi and roasted veg 'cos I couldn't think of anything else and the parsnip looked sad.

Do you remember when eating scampi and chips in a basket in a 'pub was the height of decadence...and drinking Snowballs 'cos they came in a fancy sort of glass and there'd be a cherry on a stick...I think it was Advocat and fizzy lemon...can't remember. Certainly wouldn't drink it now but I was a bit naïve when it came to drinks back then.

I've just opened a bottle of Blackberry Vodka that I made in the autumn...it's seriously moreish so I'll need to stop after one small glass...there's Sloe Gin tucked away in the cupboard as well.

Do hope you are well enough and looking forward to the coming year...

Sounds delicious to me..holding out my plate. :-D

Ah, you were definitely part of the "in-crowd" if you could afford to go to a pub which served scampi (or chicken) in the basket - there was a pub called The Trout near Lechlade which was THE place to go then!

I like the word Drizzle as in Drizzle lemon cake Vashti, but would settle for your roast drizzle veg too but no Vodka. Used to have sloe gin from a close friend of ours years ago. Do my own scampi in the oven these days not at the pub in a basket. Warners Holidays do fish & chips in a basket by the way. Happy new year to you enjoy xx

Scampi and roasted veg sound fine to me vashti and I would like to use up bits and pieces in the fridge too. No strange description of scampi could put me off as I think they are tasty and I do remember them being in a basket. I still like the occasional snowball but will be round for a sloe gin if it's all the same to you. The vodka sounds good too.

Happy New Year to you and all those you hold dear. xxxxx

Sounds good to me ! and yes I do remember those days, feeling really sophisticated, sipping a snowball and munching on the scampi.

The blackberry vodka sounds enticing, not too much though!!

All the best for 2015, and please keep writing your wonderful anecdotes.

That took me back two score years Vashti - and what about Fondue sets? You were really up there with the best of them if you had one of those and the ubiquitous wooden plates to eat the salad off! Wonder will people look back on the 5 fruit and veg with the same nostalgia - that's after the health gurus decide it can give you all sorts of nasties! I made a snowball last Christmas for us all - someone had produced a bottle of Warnincke's - the verdict was not good. I'll be sticking to the old Scottish Water of Life tonight as I see the New Year in with my little dog - but that blackberry vodka wouldn't come amiss. Hope we all have a "Guid New Year" and better health for all. Happy New Year folks.

Sounds like you had a lovely evening Vashti!! Xx
