Has anyone thought about coil implants ?, or has anyone got anymore information about this subject. I have a FEV 1 of 18%, I am thinking now this is my only chance of a better life.

Happy New year all, please take care. :-)

Thanks for yesterday,s info:-)

I've been watching Google on the subject for a few years now. Hopefully they will be available on the NHS in the not too distant future. I, for one, would like it done.

Thanks Puffthemagicdragon, :-)

I believe that a middle age man in his fifties had them implanted on nhs this year 2014 for emphysema , article was in dailymail this year. Its only for emphysema not bronchitis. Type it into google search you can find article hospital and consultant perfotming it.

Thanks ponkmonster. :-)

There was a chap on The One Show who had it done recently. It was done at The Royal Brompton and there were trials for 50 people. The programme on Iplayer has passed now so it's not viewable.

mw77 if you can get to see a consultant at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London you would get more information. I don't know about lung coils but will be keeping my ears open and the people who have replied to you already have helful comments. I just know the Royal Brompton seems to be one of the leading hospitals for dealing with COPD and that could the best place to start. I do wish you a much healthier and happier 2015, best wishes, stillmovin1 xx

Hi Mike, the last lung function test I had which was at my first appointment after referral to the BROMPTON my Fev had gone up 1%,,this might be just a different machine but I,lol take it as an improvement. Also having been put back on aminophyline which did nothing first time round I found a great improvement so don,t give up hope things change all the time.Good health for 2015 and beyond, regards D. PS Do you live in Wales? If so you might be my brother lol :D

I saw a consultant at wythenshawe hospital about 4 years ago. My lung were not fit enough for lung reduction and coils were not mentioned. He agreed to admit me for suitability for a transplant, eventually I went on the list in October 2012. I had a false call in 2013 but all went ahead in January 2014. I have just had the best Christmas in years, last Christmas I was in a wheelchair. To anyone who gets the opportunity go for it,there are no guarantees but as my consultant said to me "there is only one guarantee in life and that's we are going to die". Very true. Good luck to all, take whatever is offered but keep as fit as you can V.i.p. Happy new year. Sue
