I went back to the Dr. today, and he listened in and then gave me another course of AB and seven days more on steroids , he gave me doxycycline this time. I have to say that this has flattened me, I have never had a chest infection before that has needed back to back AB. Thank you to all who answered my post, you are a great bunch. God bless you all. Hi, I hope you will soon be better. I went to my local Urgent Care Clinic yesterday as I was coughing and feeling breathless, and the waiting room was ful of "coughers"including children and two small babies. The nurse practioner said there was a virus circulating, but thought I had an infection so back on the A Bs and steroids.

Oh dear poor you. I've been there too. It's s**te, it takes ages to get back on top so don't do too much. Hope you've got loads of Vits in, drink loads. I really hope this doxy does it.

Hi Marie, sadly back to back ABs are reality for many of us- I've had four lots before now and i certainly won't be the only one. Might be an idea to get some probiotics as the ABs will be destroying the "good" bacteria in your gut. Do hope you feel better soon. Just don't take them at the same time as the ABs as they will work against each other.

I,m hopeless at infections,never know if one has gone and got a new one or it,s just carried on.Just finished two lots of doxycycline then another lot of clari- somethingorother and still not sure if it's cleared.Tis the season of infection!Hope you feel better soon.I always get doxycycline as amoxicillin does,nt do anything for me.Regards D.
Clarithromicin is quite a strong Anti-biotic but doesn't help some people. I had it prescribed for a few years and then suddenly my body rejected it. The G.P. then put me back on Amoxicillin. Some times it works others it doesn't but there is a good alternative in Amoxiclav. It's an extention of Amoxicillin but helps it to do a better job.
When I read-up on Doxycycline I wasn't happy with what I read.

Hi Doublecee, I think I have built up a resistance to Amoxicillan, in saying that it is a big component of Augmentin and that has worked in the past. Doxycycline used to be called Vibromycin, and again that has worked for me. I have been panicking as I have to go back to work on Xmas eve, I am a baby nurse, and I need to be free from infection. Bacteria can develop resistance to antibiotics, people cannot . . .
Hi doublecee. After recent years of trial and error with AB in response to infections I now insist on a sputum test to get the appropriate AB for the specific infection. Other wise the GP is simply throwing any AB at the problem hoping it will go away. Just to add to my severe COPD my Xmas gift was a mini stroke last week. So after Fast Tracking in a stroke unit I cannot drive for at least a month. I think I must be wearing out!! Have a good Xmas and keep breathing!!!
Hi, Augmentin is Amoxicillin combined with Clavulanic Acid. The acid works as a catalyst to enable the basic Amoxicillin do it's job. I read-up on Doxycycline and wasn't very impressed with the side effects.
Antibiotics are funny things. They will work as they seems fit. I was on Clarythromicin for a number of years and suddenly my body rejected it. The medical people reckoned it was a good thing to happen. Take Care, Doublecee
