I have IPF and an irregular heartbeat I use 02 when moving about and have treatment for my Heart but have noticed when I use my oxymeter the oxygen readings are 90 to 96 at best but my heart rate goes from 43 , 54, 60s then 70s and 80s and never stabilize s which I'm used to but the low reading puzzles me. Does anyone have a low reading.?

Hi

my heart rate used to change similar to that, but doing nothing seemed ok, it turned out I have sick sinus disease, also called sick sinus syndrome. Got a pacemaker for it now. Drs said I was dizzy from inner ear problem, but I got pulse oximeter and found when I stood up my heart went down. Told the Dr and it went from there. Hope you haven't got that, Im sure theres tons of other reasons, but mention just in case.

Hope you feel better soon

Thanks for reply carol ,

I have never heard of sick sinus desease although I have had sinus infections in the past but also have had inner ear problems for years so I put any dizziness down to that or low oxygen levels. No one has suggested a pacemaker for the problem of low heart rate but I have a slow release digoxin and warfarin to prevent blood clots. The GP may have a simple answer to how low it drops but when I see them my main concern is usually a chest infection so I forget to ask maybe I will next time. Thanks again glad someone read my post .

Hi,

sick sinus syndrome or disease is about the sinus node in the heart, that is what keeps beat regular. Its what they call an umbrella term as well, for a number of things concerning heart. A slow beat on its own is bradycardia, but it can be (is for me), part of the condition SSS. My pacemaker is set to cut in when my heart goes under 60 per minute to make it go back up again. Works for me.

Hope you get it sorted, whatever it is.

I have COPD and also have a very irregular heartbeat. It sometimes slows down considerably and is also irregular in fact some years ago when I was in hospital with an injured back it kept setting the alarm off so they took my heart monitor off so that the rest of the ward could sleep. I'm often sent for ECG's and I've had various scans all of which have led the experts to conclude that there isn't a lot wrong with it. I'm 76 years old, had this condition for many years and I've stopped worrying about it now. I've come to the conclusion that this is the way my heart operates and it's probably unique to me.

My goodness, I thought I had, in a dream posted a comment here as reading yours is everything I have also, however I haven't reached the point of not allowing it to cause me to fret a little. I too am 76 and retired 4 years ago because I was for the first time diagnose with copd and breathing had become difficult. My heart has been out of rythem for many yrs and cardiologist couldn't find the reason but then I went into Afib and they finally put a pacemaker in which help tremendously , even breathing. I still deal with occasional erratic heart beat bu at least if it drops below 60 the pacemaker gives it a boost. Sorry I've been so long winded. Just so comforting to hear how others deal with the similar heart and lung problems!! Drs really don't offer very information or reassurance !! I've learned here that others with worse condition have dealt with and gotten better. Gives me hope.
