Sorry Boxer I haven't a clue. I do think you should go back to your doctors though to check everything is ok. It's possible you might need stronger painkillers as well. x

Hi i think the pain in your rib may have been caused from where you have coughed and strained.

it could take 4-6 weeks but should get better

Good luck

i would think it could be your intercostal muscles Boxermad, either bruised or strained. It could even be that you've broken a rib coughing, it happens. And yes, either way it takes about 6 weeks to heal. Sorry if that seems a long time but at least it WILL heal :)

Put a heat pad on the area especially when clearing lungs or coughing, I found it helped when I had bad rib pain when I had a horrible chest infection. It took 4_5 weeks to get rid of pain. Wish you well x

Hi Boxermad. Sounds to me like you could have pleurisy, that can be very painful. It could just be muscle strain from coughing, I have both diseases that you have and I get that quite a lot. If it doesn't improve, go back to your GP, that's what they're there for.

Hi, could be pleurisy? It's very painful. The GP can hear if it is by listening with a stethoscope, it makes a rasping sound rather than crackle or wheeze.

Please see doc again, two weeks of pain is long enough.

Good luck. P

I have had exactly same as you hun pain in my ribs and chest area, I had this pain for s few weeks and a lot better now even though a little sore first thing in the morning when I try to get up out of bed, I had a flare up and was continually coughing that I think I strained everything so much ended up having a trapped nerve in my back also, which was terrible on top of everything else, got antibiotics and a corse of steroids and much better now, so maybe another visit to your doctor be a good idea hun. Be well love angie.

i have had this of and on for quite some time now, i think in my case it was straining /coughing etc. emphysema/ copd,,, i have fused ribs ans spine due to another underlying illness which doesnt help, it really is a rotten pain, making you frightened to cough..

i finished up wrapping a scarf tight round my rib area, and used a hot water bottle,, which helped a bit.

i would say, that if no better in a few days, go back to your g,p just in case its anything more sinister like pleurisy etc... but your g,p should be able to tell you right away if it is.

i hope this pain subsides and gives you a little peace,, wishing you well jimmy
