"Is that meant to be a joke?...if Yes, Then I don't get it......

very mean of you to call the majority of members plebiscites I take it you know the full meaning of the word and are using it with such force then yes it is time you left us, the majority on this site are going through their own personal hell each day, we operate as a family loving each other sometimes with questions oft times with photo's and the odd joke but we get through each day.

Thankfully they are very few and far behind. anyways for anyone with that sick mind set. it only goes to highlight all the more, The really nice and genuine one's. Ant! hoping your doing okay. I am feeling that bit better day by day:) take care yourself. Megan "

in reply to megannell

Hi Megan I am so so at the moment just waiting to go on my IV antibiotics in my own home I go to the hospital on Mon am to see the nurse practitioner who will take me through things and insert my lines from there on I will be handed over to the community IV team the reason behind all this was 20 infections in a year caused by a pseudonoma as found in a sputum sample in August just hoping this will work otherwise it will mean a fortnight in hospital with something stronger.

" Ant.. Ants, I had this in march. It's called a PICC line. It doesn't hurt at all. This is linked with a bottle (Full of the liquid of your choice!) full of antribiotics! They change this every day. It's a clever device that pumps antibiotics constantly.

I had this for a fortnight with Ceftazadine. it did the trick. And it's at home, so you don't catch any other bugs from the hospital. The nurses who come are really nice too. You'll see you'll be bouncing back like a little bird ready for singing!

in reply to helingmic

Hi Mic my choice of a bottle would be a nice single malt the thought of that being fed through a PICC line shear heaven still we can all dream LOL not being able to have the odd glass as I have been on Azithromycin for what seemed an age, I am looking forward to the nurses each day and the AB clobbering the Pseudonoma on the head. Thanks for setting my mind at ease this is what I meant when I replied to malk7 here we all are a family we all have been through things or about to go into the unknown and as you have proved you set my mind at ease thank you.

Ants, keep your hopes up. You will be cured of pseudomonas. It might like you so much that it becomes a mute resident. It is one in most of us who had it. Nevertheless, the AB will deal with this. It might flare up again, sorry, but after the intravenous, build your strength, do some exercises like the 8 peices of vrocade (being silk it makes you and yoru lungs more supple; silk is strong, so you will be strengthened by them.

Here is a few links, This one is the explanation;

taichivillage.org/?page_id=662

And here is the video with quite a nice girl too!

youtube.com/watch?v=DhsU1qL...

I do this every morning for several months now and I found it helps me cough up the mucus in the morning and strengthen my energy. After I coughed up in the morning, i don't cough much during the day; that's a real sense of freedom. Don forget, I had pseudomonas too, recurrent pneumonia and TB! Of course, I had to have a lot of these intravenous, But I know I have gradually turned a corner. Is till have infections, like now. But last year, I needed to be taken to hospitl. This year I fight on my own, with the advice of GP and pulmonary team who observe in the background.

Sorry this is getting a bit long (lung???) But keep having the confidence that you will beat ti, yoru body will, especially if you do some exercises. be patient, and brave, Yo will be able to have a little tipple! :-)

in reply to helingmic

Thank you Mic for those encouraging words I guessed as much that the pseudonoma might just become a ghost resident once all the infection is clear I have my PICC lines inserted in the morning so please say an ave for me I know it will be nothing like I feared but with me it is fear of the unknown.

Thank you ever so much for those links as well I have a physio (cardiac) who I rely on so much she knows me inside out and any exercises she tailors according to my ability.

You have given me so much confidence and hope for the future and I am looking forward to my single malt at Christmas (only one though) so I can toast the health of everyone on HU.

Once again thanks and I will keep you informed.

Ant

in reply to

Oh dear some of those exercises I cannot do at the moment the upward stretch movements as I have an

Hernia a left over from major surgery for a ruptured aneurysm that is why I know I can beat this as I beat 8 weeks on life support in intensive care and high dependency units and I sure ain't going to let a pseudonoma get the better of me, thinking of it I was having repeated chest infections since the day I left hospital and they do say pseudonoma's are the first step to pneumonia for those like my self who have a trach in for a long time

helingmic profile image
helingmic in reply to

pseudomonas can be beaten! Do whatever exercsies your physio taylor makes for you, I bet she knows more than I do. Great!

The PICC line allows you to stay out of hospital, that's the benefit, because one picks up all sorts of nasties in there! To your health!

in reply to helingmic

also hospitals can be lonely places as I have no family living this side of the Pennines, I go when I have to but hate waiting on my own in those huge waiting areas these days people have lost the art of conversation or are reading their ebooks or playing games on their smart phones. With technology we have become a silent nation hardly bothering with the next person in the street I joined dementia friends and am waiting to go on a course to become a dementia champion, I will talk to even the down at heel the sort of people avoid like the plague. No this hospital at home thing is the best thing going since sliced bread.

in reply to

My Physiology is great and she treats you with respect speaking on the same level of intelligence as myself and seems to have a good knowledge of the body, just knock the pseudomonas on the head and I will be raring to go

helingmic profile image
helingmic in reply to

So very true. I don't like hospitals because they put me in a room in isolation. They thought I was quite happy dong nothing. Fortunately, I found a novel, bizarrely on Frankenstein, but it described Romania, some village in it, Greece, Istanbul, very geographical!

And I found on the TV I could switch to BBC£ rather than the TV programmes which didn't interest me! Was so glad to get home too, even though I am on my own (since my wife is in hospital)

HuwieHex in reply to

Pleb is not a shortened form of Plebiscite. It means Plebian. I am a Pleb as, I am sure, are about 99 per cent of the population. Having said that, I don't understand what meaning the OP wishes to convey.

in reply to HuwieHex

I beg to differ Huwie but pleb is short for plebiscite as I originally pointed out as laid out below from the oxford dictionary

Origin

mid 16th century (referring to Roman history): from French plébiscite, from Latin plebiscitum, from plebs, pleb- 'the common people' + scitum 'decree' (from sciscere 'vote for'). The sense 'direct vote of the whole electorate' dates from the mid 19th century.

stilltruckin profile image
stilltruckin in reply to

A plebiscite is a kind of referendum.

If this was the intended meaning of 'pleb' then it cannot possibly be interpreted as derogatory in any way . . .

in reply to stilltruckin

yes it is either or a person on the lower rungs of life in the French and Roman language in the mid 19th century it became a kind of referendum as above 'the common people' + scitum 'decree' (from scisere 'vote fore'). The sense 'direct vote of the whole electorate'. Could mean a form of referendum I know my Latin and at one time French but not so well these days.

In the context Malk put it tIME TO CALL IT A DAY. TOO MANY PLEBS ON THIS SITE . LET THEM SUFFER . I would definitely say it was an insult more than a compliment.

stilltruckin profile image
stilltruckin in reply to

But if pleb is short for plebiscite, rather than plebian, then he is insulting referendums or ballots, which makes no sense . . .

in reply to stilltruckin

my thoughts exactly a pleb in Roman/French times was short for Plebicitum, French plébiscite used to describe any person of the lower classes it only got broken up and used wrongly in the 19th century to mean a vote but the word was used from (from sciscere 'vote for'). which is the one you are struggling with. I was going with that interpretation I had in my memory from University days.

'plebiscite (n.)

"direct vote of the people," 1860 (originally in reference to Italian unification), from French plébiscite (1776 in modern sense, originally with reference to Switzerland), from Latin plebiscitum "a decree or resolution of the people," from plebs (genitive plebis) "the common people" (see plebeian (adj.)) + scitum "decree," . . .'

in reply to stilltruckin

yes you got the half that was corrupted in the mid 19th century thanks to an American military establishment that was when the word became corrupt before that in roman times a plebiscite was a shop or other manual worker. Good Night

ancienthistory.about.com/cs...

Quote:

'A plebiscitum was a Roman resolution, decree or legislative measure that was passed in a plebeian assembly, concilium plebis, without any patricians voting. Originally the plebeian assembly enacted measures affecting themselves only, like the election of plebeian magistrates, but over time, the focus changed. At first a plebiscitum served as law only if the senate approved; later, under the lex Hortensia of 287 B.C., plebiscita were made valid as law. Later still, the plebeians suffered a political set-back under Sulla, but the loss in power was reversed in 70 B.C.

A plebiscitum was not the same as a lex 'law' although it came to have the same force.'

I am so shocked and sad. I thought this WS an open friendly site for like minded people to support each other. Are having a bad day or trying to be funny. Its the middle of the night and I can't sleep so thought I'd see if anybody was about. Just my luck. If somebody offends you or you don't want them to follow you why not just reply and ask them not to. Simple and kind.

helingmic profile image
helingmic in reply to Nanaeal

Naneal, I think we are all shocked by this post. Someone suggested it was a troll. It may be that someone is masking themselves behind a member which would be terrible.. We are a loving people. We respond kindly to others. We give pieces of advice. That is why we are here!

Now, did you know that if you can't sleep, alittle breating exercises which will tire you may help you.

(I also take Kalm which contains a plant to make you sleep. I try not to abuse this. If it is 4 am, I try to lclam my body by listening to some soft music. Sometimes it works.

Hope you find sleep. Try some exercises during the day too.

You sound like a really nice person, perhaps you r the pleb, happy days lols

you are the wrong person on the wrong site. Most people on here are very supportive of each other and when you are isolated, ill and afraid this is very precious. Take your innapropriate observations of other users and leave!

I would think that Malik has been the victim of his own success. I used to regularly post jokes on the site....just to cheer the day on, you understand. However, one person in particular put in an objection to my jokes....and without any communication from the moderators, I was banished. My jokes were removed but other folks jokes on the same subjects were allowed to stay on. There is no reasoning with them moderators....his or her word is final and they haven't even got the guts to tell you that you have been put on the naughty step. I think it still goes back to when the site was rehashed the previous time to last time. They didn't want any jokes or anything off the medical theme...no pictures of pets, no landscapes, nothing. I know the moderators won't answer this post and I know full well that I may yet again be put on the naughty step but I took reasonable precautions before and so will just post under one of my alternative names. Hang on in there Malik...think it through and have a break but come back. a community needs all types of folk to keep it ticking over, some good and some bad.

helingmic profile image
helingmic in reply to CornishBrian

OK, You make this very clear,CornishBrian . I just think the person behind malk may not be him at all. How it happened, I don't know. Perhpas the mods will take care of this, since they've done it wrongly against you., they might act in this case. let's hope for peace, please.

From what I can gather malk posted a joke and it seem to have offended jankhon who replied quite harshly, obviously it upset malk and he came up with this post, I have always loved his jokes but agree there was no need for such an open blast on everyone, I'm certainly no pleb, but I do suffer, as we all do, that's why we're on here, I certainly don't need to have any more suffering wished on me , nature and life is doing a bloody good job all by themselves. U should have aimed ur post more specific malk , instead u've ending up offending everyone. Shame. X Sonia xxx
