Hi it's always best to err on the side of caution so I think you should see the doctor to check everything is ok. Don't take chances with your lungs. x

Both me and Az get a pain like that, it feels like a cross between cramp and the bottom of your lung collapsing. We both suffered with it for a long time, we call it a buckle. It's never caused any long term problem, but it is very painful. I find it helps to get a deep breath as soon as you can and hold it for a bit, then let the breath out slowly.

I have had that too, usually it is caused by Salbutamol or similar drug causing the intercostal muscles around ribs to spasm, it does go away but is most painful.

hope some one knows ,i have that regularly, i think it may have to do with coughing a lot , but may be not

I think the intercostal muscle suggestion is most likely - it won't be anything IN the lung causing pain as the lung tissue doesn't have nerve endings. As suggested best to talk to your GP.

Hi Yvette, I would contact your GP as It sounds like pleurisy. It is very painful and catches the breath. Good luck, I hope I am wrong but either way you need advice. Maximonkey

I have terrible pain on my left side, I think it is muscular rather than lung related but it is most uncomfortable. It usually happens when I am standing using my arms, so much so that I can hardly carry on it is so painful. Wish I could sort it, I have spoken to my Respiratory Nurse but she didn't know what to do about it. Take care, Lizzy x

I had pain in the bottom of my left lung and was diagnosed with pleurisy.

I experience cramp under my ribs my yoga teacher told me to stretch my arms up above my head to relieve this ,it does help.

could well be a muscle cramp. try grasping the top of the door frame and doing a gentle pull while taking a deep breath, will help to work the muscle and ease the cramp. could be caused by medication, example would be too much ventoline intake for example.
