Under A Black Cloud...

It can be a bit of a struggle to keep going sometimes...I'm not too bad when I'm at home, but going out can be such an effort I don't always bother, and then another week has gone by and I've only seen Himself and the postman...and the postie talks so fast I can't understand half of what he's saying, which doesn't make for a sparkling conversation...

It isn't as though I'm bored...just sort of itchy and restless and can't settle to anything and dragging oxygen tubes about doesn't help...and I get seriously cross and snappy and want to smack something.

Then I come on here. And I read about the awful troubles other people are living with and I read bits out to Himself and he says what I'm thinking...I have it easy enough. He's not meaning that in a nasty way, but simply stating the obvious.

I remember a saying...' I used to grumble about not having shoes, until I met a man who had no feet' then I pull myself together and the black cloud finally lifts and life seems better again...

No matter what your own health issues are, you always have the time to answer peoples queries and to put their minds at ease with words of reassurance and helpful advice. And although your totally unaware of it... you make me get a grip of myself and carry on regardless...

Thank you.

Glad to be of some help and comfort if I can vashti and hope that black cloud has lifted for you. I often look at other peoples posts and realise that Pete is maybe not so bad but sometimes, not often, just being a carer is so hard. I love looking after Pete but seeing him in such terrible pain with his back is heart breaking, let alone his breathing and heart problems. One good thing though, he does have an angiogram appointment at last for the 18th December.

Life can be difficult at times but it is wonderful to have people who care and this is a great site for that.

Take care xxxxx

When taking care of my darling Mum I learned how very heartbreaking it is to watch someone you love suffer.....one of the worst feelings in the world. Take care of yourself. :)

As Winston Churchill was not proud to admit but he to a politician at the top been through 2 wars and other conflicts yet he had his black dog days when his mood dipped low. What I am trying to say Vashti is that it is the very nature of the beast COPD gives us our lows and highs and I for one admit I sometimes hide behind my character name on this site able to give help to others who are in need.

in reply to

Churchill didn't make a secret of his black dog days did he Ant...and it wasn't really accepted back then either.

in reply to

no he certainly did not and true as you say in those days it was looked upon as "pull yourself together man" he went to France quite often for treatment

Hi vashita, how true those words are, there is always someone somewhere in more need of your sympathy and kind words, and we gladly give it, sidestepping your own problems for someone in more need. That is what's so heartwarming about this site.

What's make - up? Forgotten how to apply that, but oxy does give you a great complexion. I am not too good at replies especially advice on how to cope with illness. I just wish I was better at it. Take care

Thank you Dozy xx

Morning Vashti - I wonder if its that time of year! I have just had a talk with my husband who is feeling a bit down, this weather limits him even more and as you say, going out can seem more trouble than its worth! Its cold, its damp, get the oxygen, is there enough?, wheres the scooter - oh and the husband! (and the anti bac gel!) (and the tissues) The point is it is worth it - get out there and realise there is a world out there you will feel better for just feeling part of it or just watching it!

I had to be very severe and tell my husband he needed to start saying thank you for what he can do and not dwell on what he cant. The truth is he has never been in films as a stuntman, worked in the parachute regiment or tamed lions!! - so why worry about that and some of the things he cant do I sigh with relief - I hated footing ladders as he lopped the trees.

I can be very irritating - who wants to hear the glass is really half full when you feel as if it is half empty!!! Stay positive - look for the good things, there are so many including the beautiful colours Autumn brings. Take good care of yourself, TAD xxx

I do know of course...that one ought not dwell on what you can't do anymore...just a bit difficult sometimes!
