today we went to my breatheasy club in southend .

we had a doctor from the hospital who is heart and chest specialist . he spoke for a good hour about copd and ipf . transplants and research and different pills and puffers . he then answerd questions for about 20 mins . we then had a cuppa and a raffle and we won a box of biscuits .

Glad you enjoyed it Bill and found it informative. We never had a doctor at my Breatheasy group but we did have a fireman! (Down girls - wouldn't have accepted a lift from him if you had paid me ).

I stopped going though as I found them clique and a bit unfriendly, not all of them but enough. And there was one woman there who could hardly walk because of sob but she had enough breath to whine and whinge continually! x

Hi Budgiesmum,

If you take a look on the BLF website you will find a list of Breathe Easy groups up and down the country. My experience is that they do vary from group to group and they are either super positive or moany, whingey, whiny.....

Thanks PollyP. Been there done that !.

I would rather know what was happening on the day rather than turn up and find its a ' bingo afternoon'. ( no disrespect intended to bingo fans). Or a local councils display of items available in the community. ............not helpful when you are not from that area.

Earlier this year the BLF site were showing last years events lists for some groups and nothing at all for others.

When you have to travel up to an hour or more to get to a venue

to find it a waste of time and fuel one tends to end up being a cross

Do agree with you there! I find the online forum better and more helpful/supportive. I do prefer community social groups rather than illness based groups which usually drag me down.. Wishing you health and wellbeing.....keeeep smiling

I do agree about the possible drag down effect that can happen....... I was more interested in the physio / medic programmes.

So have given up with groups and do my own thing, and like you stay with the on-liners.,..........nice having this chat, back to the vacuum.

Hello Bill. I also attend a Breathe Easy Group here in Bucks. High Wycombe. We have had some very good speakers. Unfortunately out chairlady went on the emergency list for a lung transplant, so things have fallen apart slightly. But we have started up a group exercise class to carry on after attending Pulmonary Rehabilitation. Its great fun, some of us sit for the exercises. Great music. Its called Golden Zumba. Our teacher is specially trained to focus on the diaphragm and lung area. We all support one another and leave feeling good.

I would also like to say that I always read this forum and get lots of info and laughs from some of the members correspondence. I also feel very uplifted by some of the friendly advise. To all you regular writers please keep going, there are many of us 'stalkers' who are a bit too shy to write in regularly.
