Cleaning Out The Freezer...

I don't do housework...never did much in the first place, but since being ever so sort of poorly I now have the perfect excuse to let the dust bunnies gather and breed away to their hearts delight...

But the small chest freezers were stuffed full and had a thick layer of ice round the tops and Himself kept yanking packets out and scattering frozen peas everywhere...then he'd announce we didn't have any ice cream when I knew full well we had two cartons of raspberry.

So I armed myself with gloves and oxygen and set to. Honestly, what a blooming palaver...and why was there one solitary Yorkshire pudding right at the very bottom all on its own...and a packet of fish fingers with a sell by date of three years ago...and the inevitable plastic containers which could have had left-over stew or a fruit crumble...no way of knowing until it was cooked.

Anything which looked remotely suspicious went into the big saucepan where it was boiled up on the range for the dogs supper...it smelt quite nice actually...then Himself scooped the ice out...I couldn't do that 'cos the top squashed my meagre chest when I bent over and I had to do a bit of breathing...now all the lumps of dead animals are in one freezer and pasta, veggies, bread and so on in the other...

It won't last of course...there'll be a packet of frozen peas on top of the sausages before the week is out.

I was knackered after all that, so had a bit of a sit down and a nice cup of tea...

Hello and where art thou Vashti....to dust or not to dust is the question!...lolol! :D well, that sounds like a very well deserved cuppa indeed! I haven't been as busy as you but I feel like having a snooze after making myself a very nice Sunday dinner followed by yet another bowl of apple crumble with ice-cream, my fridge-freezer is choccablocca full of fruit...Blackcurrents, Apples, Blueberries,Raspberries and Goosegogs, I think I could do with a freezer from santa! huff :D :D xxx

Well done vashti, well deserved cup of tea, how come I find everytime I empty my freezer it's always fish fingers that have fell out the box and leaves all little orange crumbs mixed in with escapee peas, annoying. Will do mine again before Xmas to be able to fit the gateaux's and turkey in lol. X Sonia x

Good for you vashti, what an achievement. You sound as if you deserved the tea and a sit down. You take it easy and never mind the dusting. You do it one day and it's back the next so what is the point? Mind you, with breathing problems, dust isn't great is it! Oh well. xxxx

Similar problem we could not open the top draw of our freezer something was stuck on the top metal cooler tubes. So started to dig stuff out to make it easier. Once I got the six picnic basket ice blocks out and 2 wine bottle coolers and then the rest of the food to release the tapped bag that was holding everything back. My wife re-bagged the ripped bags and started to put the ice blocks back! I asked when was the last time we ever had cause to go out with them? it was over 3 years ago when we thought we had last used them! We are are always struggling for room in the small freezer so at least we could but something we eat in the space left from the uneatable frozen items that were in there.

Well Vashti, I have a fridge freezer. Normally, the fridge is automatically defrosted. But the other day, it started having a pool of icy cold water at the bottom. I squeezed all the water out. There's an overflow inside teh fridge, I check it every day now. If there's a bit of water that wants to flood the bottom, I sponge it up, not to have the same surprise. How chocolate for me, Vashti!

Well done but do try not to kill yourself doing jobs that are too heavy for you, tell the hubby to do them. I understand though as I try to be independent too and put off things until I have to do them. Take care Maximonkey
