Hi Pergola,

the public are bombarded and then you get the adverts about the lonely, the vunerable. What they dont realise is they help people feel more lost and alone, sometimes life is one moment at a time, but really it's annoying me over the attitude and money costing adverts....Ahh bar humbug. LOL.

in reply to rockett777

true as Freud explained loneliness is not just the plain fact of being on your own but sometimes lacking the gift of not being alone in a crowd. I often am alone in a crowd due to my shyness.

oh my Tazzy2, thats what l just said, go out as a clownx

to true rocket I know their is only about 70 odd days left to crimbo but once in 2005 I had a near brush with the grim reaper when my aneurysm decided to rupture I was in an induced coma and hooked up to a life support machine for three months it is now some 9 years to the day I was able to come home with a goal to be walking by Christmas and I made it. Nope life to me is for living each day is a special gift and I live it to the full. "Carpe Diem" (seize the day).

Absolutely seize the day! Yes in a room full of peeps you can feel alone.

My grandma said "l might be alone but l'm not lonely".

Dont think l can say that, Just made me aware to look out for my neighbors and made me think, "what now".

Christmas was always, lets invite everyone. Hubby and l couldnt bear the thought those near wouldnt have the choice.

What's really sad this year, not 1 of the 5 kids coming home and neighbors at this mo, dont know how to talk to me.....May be l should go out as a clown.LOL

Oh rockett, I know this Christmas is going to be awful for you, especially if you are on your own. I hope that nearer the time, one at least of the kids will come to you, or you may get invited to one of their places. Or a friend or neighbour might step in when they know the kids aren't coming. I know my situation was not the same as yours, but when I went through an amicable divorce, and it was the right thing to do, it still hurt like hell. I wanted to be on my own that first Christmas for various reasons, and that felt right for me. Everyone is different though, and if your kids do not know how you feel, then tell them. I agree that you shouldn't need to, but you know what it can be like. Its still early days, and you never know what will happen and you might even have a dog by then? Now that would be a good present for yourself, and as you know pets are so good as companions and very calming.

Christmas seems to start earlier every year, and I must admit to groaning aloud at it all. Where I stay the only supermarket is the Co-op, and I kid you not, when I went in to shop in mid August, they had mince pies and selection boxes already out, along with big tins of biscuits.!! It was still summer for goodness sake. It puts pressures on mums as well, as the kids start getting excited when they see these things. Not a lot we can do though, just try and ignore all the adverts and things until we want to look at them, or if we do. lol

Take care,

hugs from Huggs xxx (((((((((((rockett)))))))))))))

THE TRACKS OF MY TEARS by THE MIRACLES

SONG FACTSLYRICS

This song is about a man who tries to hide his pain, but cannot conceal the tracks made by his tears. The man has come out of a relationship with the love of his life, and the song is his confession to her that his high spirits are just an act and she's the only one for him, or perhaps what he wants to tell her but can't. (thanks, Rick - Manchester, England)

Miracles members Smokey Robinson, Warren Moore, and Marv Tarplin wrote this song. Robinson penned the lyrics; Tarplin, The Miracles' guitarist, came up with the riff. Robinson recalled: "'Tracks of My Tears' was actually started by Marv Tarplin, who is a young cat who plays guitar for our act. So he had this musical thing [sings melody], you know, and we worked around with it, and worked around, and it became 'Tracks of My Tears.'"

Tarplin got the idea for the music after listening to a calypso tune - Harry Belafonte's "The Banana Boat Song (Day-O)."

Robinson had the music Tarplin wrote on a cassette, but it took him about 6 months to write the lyrics. The words started coming together when he came up with the line, "Take a good look at my face, you see my smile looks out of place." From there, it was a few days before he got the lines, "If you look closer it's easy to trace... my tears."

What to do with those tears was a problem, as he wanted to say something no one has said about tears. In a 2006 interview with NPR, he explained that he finally came up with the image of tears leaving lasting marks, and the song came together. "One day I was listening, and it just came - the tracks of my tears," said Robinson. "Like footprints on my face. So that was what I wrote about."

This was a bigger hit for Johnny Rivers when he covered it in 1967. His version hit #10 in the US.

Linda Ronstadt covered this in 1976, Go West in 1993.

Robinson wrote a similar song a few weeks later called "My Girl Has Gone." It flopped.

Motown head Berry Gordy considers this Robinson's best work.

This was used in the 1986 Oliver Stone movie Platoon.

Reminds me of another song about lines on your face from the song Maggie.

" My face is a well written page, Maggie, and time all along was the pen. "

One of my favourite song lines. :)

I love and hate Christmas and New Year. Love the build up and anticipation but then it seems to fall flat. I get depressed thinking of all who are no longer alive and who I seem to miss more at that time of the year.

in reply to Suzy6

true Suzy when we were all a family we set a date in October when we would light a candle for each of our loved ones who had before us gone at Ripon Cathedral that way it made Christmas and New Year easier to bear that we as a family had at least taken time out of our then busy schedule to remember loved ones now it is a annual trek to the crematorium chapel of remembrance.

Hi ant what a lovely idea. Yes it's sad, My mums birthday was in December and I feel that's what starts me off.

I totally agree Rockett. The media is obsessed by Christmas and I wish they would all just shut upn about it. Christmas is sad for me as I have no one to share it with and I don't want it rammed in my face all the time. x

..some good replies here! , My local Pub was advertising " Christmas Lunch " back in , wait for it folks = JULY - ridiculous - , I did suggest to the Landlord that he ought to put Easter eggs on the Tree, which by the way is UP NOW , and get it all over in one go ......my suggestion did'nt go down too well .......!

Oh dear Rockett, sorry you're feeling so sad about Christmas.I do hear what you're saying though.Christmas can be sad for so many people,it's certainly not always the happiest time of the year!

I think that Huggs advice was spot on.Do let your family know how you're feeling, they might not have even thought of Christmas yet!

Or could mistakenly think you might want to be alone,I do think it's important to let them know how you feel about it.

I do agree it's crazy how long before time, all the advertising machinery gets into gear! Seems insane. But it must pay off for them!

Take care,love & hugs xxx
