Hi Jules and welcome to the BLF site patients side you will get plenty of tips have some fun (we are like one big family on here) but one thing now you have taken the step don't be lonely any more I know the big 'C' can be daunting I lost a brother and sister to it. Is the surgery you just had part of the treatment to bring it under control by removing a damaged portion of the lung and do you have other treatment to follow (such as chemo or radiotherapy) let us all know Jules keep in touch now you made the first move and all the best for the future. Jules have you had any input from the McMillan nurses at all? They are so helpful in getting you round to speaking with your family and friends about cancer and don't you believe it your mates would have developed some idea about what you are going through it is with them a fear a fear of the unknown so nice you replied. Just hang on in there when doubts and fears come jump on here to chat about whatever you want.

Great idea to contact Macmillan if not already in touch. My husband died of stomach cancer 6 1/2 years ago and the Macmillan Nurse was fantastic and gave a lot of support to both of us.

Hi jules - 55 and welcome. Sorry to hear you've had surgery for Lung Cancer but I hope it was successful.

You don't need to feel isolated now you've found us, there are other members who have been through the same as you. I have COPD, so don't know much about your particular situation but there are people on here that have been through the same as you and also others with other forms of Lung Disease who are all very supportive of each other.

Stick around and there will be plenty of other members along soon to meet you, who are more knowledgable than me. You'll soon find you don't feel so alone.

Casper

Your welcome Jules - 55. That's the best thing about on here, there are a lot that live on their own and a lot like me that have family but, we often don't want to alarm our family or cause them worry so, we tell each other on here what's getting us down and it gets it of our chests.

Hello Jules, good to have you with us,I'm sure you will enjoy the company.I have very severe emphysema and await test to see if I can have valves fitted,I had colon cancer a few years back .Luckily they managed to cut out the offending parts .Any major surgery is traumatic both to the physical body and to the mind,as with most things time is a great healer.Stick around with us we have many good times here but also share our difficult times, feel free to ask anything. All the best.D.

Hello there Jules I am also new and yes I had an op to remove part of the lung that had cancer tumour, then chemo for ages, then a scan showed some more tumour so I was back on treatment but, we never give up and after a year or so my Oncologist refered me to a smashing chap at RD&E (Exeter) who carried out a procedure called RFA which was painless as I was asleep, he went into the lung and burnt all the tumours, I went home the next day and pleased to say I have been in remission for 8 months now. So chin up Jules there is light at the end of the tunnel as I had been fighting the cancer for 6 years.

Keep smiling pal. Fred

Hi Jules - I had a third of my left lung removed nearly 6 years ago, as well as my right kidney, both due to cancerous tumours but, fortunately, unrelated cancers. Like you I didn't have to go through chemo or anything else afterwards and still feel very very fortunate that my lung cancer was operable. I had very, very mild COPD (emphysema) before my operations - due to smoking - but had given up the cigs before my ops. However, the COPD did get worse after my lung operation (having lost part of the lung) but I'm very lucky to still have mild, bordering on moderate, COPD. Once you feel stronger you will be out and about and living life to the full again, so just take this time to relax and get your strength back etc. This is an amazing website, so pop in each day and read the lovely messages, which have taught me SO much, and there is always someone able to reply to any queries you have. In the meantime, take care, relax and enjoy (I was back to full-time work 6 months after my ops, so I really enjoyed not having the day-to-day grind). Kind regards Pauline x

Welcome Jules. I would imagine you are feeling sore, as well as trying to come to terms with everything. Surgery of any kind makes one feel ghastly and uncomfortable and unsure of oneself........but look at what wonders it performs! You are on the right site.....I have been on it months, rather than years but I have learned a lot and it's great to "talk" with and listen to people that actually understand lung diseases.....none of my friends seem to understand. I can even rant here if I want to. Good luck to you...keep posting! :)

Hi Jules, can't add to what's already been said!

Just a big welcome from me,& please don't feel lonely,

Love & a big hug xxx
