Hi everyone, after all my sad, stress moments, want to share good news. Just been approved another year as a foster carer. Was unsure that would happen after hubby dying.

I am so happy for you rockett personally I do not see whether your husband was alive or not the person makes the foster carer and you come across as a decent person while I was sad to hear you lost your husband and no doubt soul mate you can take comfort in the fact the local council thinks you alright to carry on as a fosterer.

Yes ant lm very thankful, the teenager with me has been with us from 15, he is now 17.

in reply to rockett777

wow that makes you a saint 15-16 year olds were the most we had problems with in the probation hostel where I worked, in all my years as a social worker the teenage years were the worst for most of them.

No saint, me and hubby had tough teenage years with our 5 kids. Thats what made us choose this career. Will l say the same next year doing it alone. Watch this space.

oh thats amazing

i use to work with the youth offending service and the majority of the young ones coming to us had problems at home which had nothing to do with them but caused a terrible impact on their young lives

there are some terrible foster parents out there and some who make a massive change in the lives of these kids.

keep it up darl your a god send.....it breaks my heart when i see young people on some of these sites who are suffering...i sent a few messages the other day to a 15yr old who is crying out for help from depression and anxiety yet im told by the mediators that they will be reported if they are seen because they are too young to be on here....i told her if thats the case i wouldnt be interested in being a monitor as was mentioned to me because i will never report a young person ....oh what a rule breaker i am x

thank you for what you do.... x x x

in reply to

Mandy I am right behind you there some one has to be there for these poor kids the teenage years are the toughest and sadly have a high suicide range.

in reply to

well that was in my reply to the moderator when she told me i would have to report these children.............no way can i do that so looks like i wont be a moderator

Your so right Mandy, youngsters have such a rough press but our experience has been time, patience, love, boundaries, good food and listening ear and being an advocate for them, plus much more. The teenager with us didnt ask to live here, but he is amazing, walking very serious illness with me and hubby till hubby leaving and still this lad smiles, jokes, mis behaves(normal teenage stuff). He is amazingly courageous.

Now He is back at school. Im so pleased authorities said ok.

actually rocket if you have any helpline numbers or email addresses for young people to use i would be very grateful if you could send me them and i could pass them on x

Wow that's brilliant news!! I have tried the utmost respect for people like you!! My youngest children have been in foster care for a number of years and without people like you I dread to think what the other opinions would be!! Keep up the good work!

Great news long may you continue as a fosterer xxx

Lucky teenager and well done to you and your family for making a potentially life changing experience for this young person.

You have my greatest respect and love

So pleased for you rocket, don't worry they never turn away good carers, especially when the child is already in your care.

It sounds as if you have a very good rapport with him, that is brilliant.

I still have a few of my ex foster kids visit on occasions, all grown up now, with there own family's,lovely to see, even though they all are hundreds of kilometres away,so besides being Granmother to my own 7 Grandkids,I am also Nan to quite a few others!!

They are all such responsible parents now,I have to smile, remembering the little devils they were!

Enjoy your time with him, take care, xxxx

Thanks Wendells, yes l still hear from 2 others we fostered. One wants to come home even though she cant , small house. She encouraged to visit. How wonderful to be a grandmother to many, l have 2 but would love our other 4 to become parents. None of them are interested though in making me a nanna. They just raise their eyebrows at me and oh mum! Then tell me foster a baby next, as if you can order one. lol. xxxxxx

Such good news rockett777, both for you and the fostee.

As long as you feel able then keep going. In this area singles are accepted and think that may be countrywide due to need. If you have a proven track record all the better.

Best wishes in all that you do and my admiration

Big hugs xxx

Hi rocket,

That's fantastic news, and I am so sorry to hear that your husband died. I have been off the forum for a month or 6 weeks so cannot remember if I knew that or not. Sorry, I have memory problems due to epilepsy and lose chunks of things. The council obviously find you a fit and caring person to be able to do this. Your hubby not being there shouldn't make a difference as there are plenty of single parents around who have had marriage break ups and they don't lose custody, apart from visitations, but one parent has main custody. Sorry, I am not explaining this very well. I hope you know what I mean. My neighbours adopted a brother and sister last year, and they had been with a foster mother, who had her own kids as well as other foster kids. My neighbours kids are lovely, not cheeky and very outgoing, and a lot of that has to do with their foster mother. The kids were 4 and 5 when they came up here from Gateshead, and have adapted so well, and they were allowed to keep in touch with their foster mother whenever they wanted. I don't know if they still do, I hope so as she did a great job with them. My hat goes off to anyone who does fostering. Well done rockett.

hugs from Huggs. xxx
