It is indeed true.

That's what I was told it's the muscles around the lungs in the chest that hurt, don't care my lungs hurt and I'm sticking to it lol. Xx

I have no idea. I get dreadful pain in my ribs and all around my lungs at times, but I suffer from very bad osteoporosis, arthritis, chronic bone pain, etc., so I never know whether it's that or my lungs....things get so bloomin' complicated when you have more than one ailment!...hope you aren't suffering ....take care of yourself - sorry I couldn't help. :)

well from what im being told its true and although you can have pain around your lungs like you describe the lungs themselves dont have pain receptors which is mind boggling to me

thanks for the reply x

you can have chest pain but lungs do not have pain receptors.

yes the lungs do not have pain receptors the pain we feel as might be lung pain can vary from where it is felt as in pleurisy at the left or right side and this is a sharp pain other pains vary and doctors always ask how you perceive the pain to be IE: dull, sharp, throbbing to name but three.

Maybe lungs have no pain receptors but as we all know having scarred lungs, pneumonia, pleurisy etc can cause mega amounts of pain. Most of the aching probably comes from the intercostal muscles but what about that sharp intake of breath pain, or the burning pain of pneumonia ???? My lungs have caused me endless amounts of pain over the years and will doubtless carry on to do just that. So no pain receptors doesn't equate with no pain. Unfortunately !

The pleural membranes around the lungs have plenty of pain receptors . . .

It may also be what they call referred pain were it hurts is not were the problem is. I had a severe empyema which put a minimum of 1" on the outside of my lungs and chest cavity. I was sent to hospital for a decortication but they did not do it as to risky. Once I was released from my 40 day stay in ICU Hospital it took a further 18 months to be down to a safe levels. But as a consequence it stripped my cavity layers exposing nerves :(

I think it's just as well they don't have pain receptors if they did the pain would probably kill us off first
