Well Music, Stilltrucking's link does make the two words used different and the illnesses caused by it. I found the link very easy to understand the differences, hope it help you too.

Not sure if it's a case of either/or. I've been told I have COPD with a restrictive element revealed in spirometry testing.

Explains it a little bit better.

I am RLD

I have Paralysed diaphragm, fibrosis, episodes of Pleurisy and Pneumonia and damage of 12 days on a Oscillator instead of decortication of Empyema which took over 18 months to reduce. But I am here to tell the tail so not all bad!

I started life with asthma and bronchitis it was the severe infection and diaphragm that have moved me into the Restrictive. It does not seem to hit the headlines so much but seems to come under COPD by many! Things like peak flow means some very different. I was told that even though I blow 350 my lungs are empty after that? It is silly but I recover quickly but also run out of air quickly so any long term activity needs breaks to get my breath back. I have pushed it to far and blacked out.

My last visit to my consultant she was very nice but said that she is sorry but they do not have a magic pill yet! It is a case of keeping an eye on me and living with it as best I can?
