So far my best quote for a single adult with Heart failure travelling to the USA, is £250 from American express... anyone know of anything less than this.

Sorry, from Allclear insurance

We use a company called Avanti when we travel to USA to our son & we have found them excellent . My husband was diagnosed almost three years ago with Idiopathic Pulmonary Haemosiderosis ( very rare lung condition .) Having said that , the quote you have seems reasonable to me - as you probably know , should you need medical care while you are there , it will be horrendously expensive . Good luck & have a wonderful holiday .

A Friend of my mother paid £1000 for his insurance to US and he has a heart condition so yours does not seem so bad.

As a general rule, cheapest is not necessarily the best. This certainly applies to Travel Insurance.

Since being diagnosed with Empysema I always go to Staysure, they are pretty good ask them for a quote. And I hope you enjoy you Holiday.

Re. my earlier post & Avanti Travel Insurance - when we went to Connecticut last Christmas my husband's Policy was Single Trip 16days £260.57. - we also pay an additional £14.59 each excess waiver so that , should we have to cancel , which we had to the previous Christmas , we get all the cost of the flights back . Mike was 72 at the time we took the Policy out & he also has an Under Active Thyroid Gland & some years ago two hospital admittances with Kidney Stones . Do remember to be completely honest , even with minor health problems , because Insurance Companies are notorious for looking for any way to avoid paying out a claim & , as I said previously , Medical costs in USA are astronomical . Good Luck - Helen .

When we used to travel abroard with my lung condition we used Saga insurance. We teased my son when he travelled with us that he was too young to be insured by Saga.

Kind Regards

The figure you have been quoted sounds reasonable given the condition, however the main advice is shop around. The British Heart Foundation have a list of insurers for heart conditions not all cheap however, but some are very good. Staysure are very good too for age or health issues. Good luck

Try the Co-op their insurance is reasonable. Have a lovely time !

You are so lucky! please tell me who quoted you £250. Last time my husband and I went to see friends in California I could only find one firm willing to cover me for severe asthma and it cost me £1600 - 300 more than our air fares to and from San Francisco! We would love to go again but my breathing is worse and we can't afford it. Good Luck. Darthveda
