First thing that comes too mind, is a steam inhalation. Add olbas oil if you have it. I am sure that there will be more advice.

Spot on...steam. Drink plenty of liquids....get into the bathroom.....fill it with steam, if you have a bath, run loads of hot water then introduce cold water and steam will fill your bathroom...if not, put the shower on. Take a kettle of boiling water in, pour into the washbasin and then add cold water...settle down on a stool or chair, breath in through your nose and out through pursed lips. You are now doing the same as a neb with saline in but to a greater extent.

Careful with Olbas oil, it can irritate the throat and make you cough desperately. I knew a friend how just couldn't have it.

Are you sure it is not post nasal drip? I have that and it always seems 'stuck' as it is constantly replenishing itself.

You should maybe see your doctor or medical professional and ask if they can recommend anything. Pete takes Mucoclear by nebuliser which works well but that was prescribed by the Hospital. Hope you can find something that works for you. Good luck. xxxx

Drink loads every day to help thin the mucus.

Even blood gets thick and sticky too if you don't drink enough.

Please see your doctor, its possibly coming down from nasal passages rather than up (post nasal drip) which is perhaps why you can't cough it up.

It was the pain of my life struggling to bring it up to get rid of it like some horrible thing. Drugs didn't seem to help. I looked at what the mucous does and its journey through the body. Normally the mucous 'lubricates',for the want of a better word, our airways and throat and when it has done its job it continues down the esophagus into the stomach and out with the waste products. So I stopped trying to 'bring it up' and instead drank water, swilling round my mouth and throat to dilute the mucous and then swallowing: repeat until it has all gone-just a minute or two. Simples! I still get the mucous and it doesn't feel great but the remedy is simple and far less demanding on the rest of my body. I know we are all different, I have Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis end stage, but it's worth a try. I hope this will help you.

That's what my consultant told me to do Simeon, and she gave me saline nebs. She also advised me not to try to cough it up too strongly, but just give little coughs so's not to damage the throat.

It might sound a bit odd, but I had months of really thick sticky mucus which was so hard to shift that I got an umbilical hernia trying. Anyway, what worked for me was garlic and chilli (a really hot curry or stir fry), it seems that the bad guys in the mucus can't wait to get away from them. Hope that it works for you too :)

Dukes, I love chilli and garlic. I don't know if people who are around when I take them like it though! Chilli sauce, mm!

Have you heard of huffing? It is a effective way of clearing mucus and is often recommended by the respiratory nurses? You imagine having a mirror in front of your face (use your hand) and huff as if you are steaming up your imaginary mirror. nnuh.nhs.uk/docs%5Cdocument... explains it further or livingwithcopd.ie/index.php...

Ask your doctor for Acetylcysteine. It is designed to thin the mucus, thereby making it easier to cough up. I am on three a day.

I'm going crazy to it won't come up and sometimes it's constant swallowing. They told me it was silent reflux but today the doctor said no the medications they gave me would work it's causing a lot of anxiety and the gulping causes so much gas but the biggest thing is is I just constantly swallowing a lump over and over not a lump but mucus over and over but the doctor said if I really had mucus it would come up but I don't think that's true I mean is it's all in my head?

Try AIR POWER ( guaifenesin) is main ingredient in Mucinex.

It's not in your head. I have same problem. Years ago went to see a dr about it and he just prescribed anti-anxiety meds! I know it's not in my head because I am able to get up a little bit of the phlegm.

I buy very GOOD quality Kleenex, the one with lotion. I have to sometimes swab the mucous our of my throat. The very GOOD kleenex does not fall apart and is also smooth on the back of my throat. It’s almost like making you gag, but I can get the mucous to release. Doctors know I use this product, they just don’t tell us about it. I learned from health good store. Good luck 😁

AIR POWER ( Gusifenesin) accidentally erased from post. Put one under tongue to help us start to dissolve then drink of water and swallow it can help subside the cough for four hours you can even use two if you need to. Can buy on line about $12.00 or in Health food store.
