Spiriva and symbicort

Are you suppose to take one before the other ? Also, how long should you wait to take between medications?

We were told by doctor take Ventolin after waking up to open up airways. Wait ten minutes and take Symbicort (which is effective after twenty minutes but varies from person to person) and then twenty minutes after take Spiriva (which is effective after two hours). Trial and error though since everyone is different.

I always take my Symbicort in the bedroom. I take my Spiriva after I am washed and dressed.

I take my Symbicort (400/12) and wait 15 minutes and take my Spiriva and wait another 15 minutes and then I am right to get out of bed and greet the new day.

I didn't get any advice but was working on trying to spread the benefits over the day. So salbutamol and symbacort morning and evening and spiriva mid-afternoon. I'm very new to spiriva.

Although I am ok at the moment I am interested In those of you taking symbicort whilst still in bed in the mornings. Sometimes it's such a struggle to get to the bathroom to take it but need the water to rinse my mouth. It must best much better to take it in bed and wait until it takes effect.

Also I was told to have a gap between taking these inhalers or the body cannot cope, I always wait to take the spiriva until breakfast.

I take symbicort in bed too, wait a few minutes then the preventer Spiriva, then breakfast in bed then fit for the day. Think in the instructions somewhere it says to wait a few minutes between. Did used to take the spiriva a bit later, but no real difference. Just keep some water by bed, I have kettle there too. I do get up first though to prepare breakfast etc... up and down stairs etc.. unfortunately long lies are bad for COPD. I find anyway. And no sitting on computer for hours. Many people now stand while using the computer at work these days! Was glad while travelling recently to have no trouble taking inhalers with me through customs, even at Gatwick, and in Scotland.! Annoying people smoking at pools though! Have a word with your doc/nurse, maybe we are all wrong.

I just take my Spiriva and Seretide 500 and Omeprazole as soon as I'm up, all together. Then I shut the draw and forget about them till the night. I have Ventolin for the day but rarely use it, it doesn't seem to do much. Perhaps you should ask the doctor next time you see them. Have a lovely day, huff xxx

Pretty much the same here huff. Get up, go to bathroom to start morning routine. When breathing is steady take symbicort 400, then spiriva and put them away in bathroom cabinet until later ~ Lovelight x

My consultant advises me to take Spiriva at night. It works better for me than taking it in the mornings.

As for the other meds, see all your other replies. I take all my other inhalers/pills in the mornings.

I dont have time to mess around waiting for things to take effect I just take everything one after the other then go to work! do my neb, eat my weetabix drink of coffee take theophayne tablet drink take antihistamine drink . do more neb drink take symbocort have a drink take spiriva have a drink and take fostair finish off neb final drink clean teeth and out the door!

So all of you who take all your inhalers together in the morning, do you find the effect lasts all day pr do you have to top up ? I certainly need to take mine again in the evening and often use the ventolin a few times a day.

I've rejigged mine now LOL.

Symbicort first thing and again at about one. Seebri about 10pm (that suits me better and I seem to sleep better too) and then Ventolin during the day if needed.

hi yes it last most of the day some days I need to take my ventolin in the day but really if i need it more than a couple of times then I should not be at work!

Symbicort on waking followed by Seebri (same as Spiriva - different brand) about 10 minutes later. Never use Ventolin except very rarely as 'rescue inhaler'. Certainly would not take it before my Symbicort as it would prevent full uptake of the stronger Symbicort med.

I take mine "before" bed so breathe easy durning the night. I also used to take them one right after the other, (called laziness because I Didn't want to rinse twice) but from now on I'll separate them a bit. These comments were very helpful, seems I had them in the right order anyway thanks everyone.
