Tight chest, short breath.

Hello all Bob here, first post/new member. Just lately, well the last hot few days I have been getting a tight chest and a bit puffy when I go upstairs or carry a shopping bag, not anything heavy. From last year I have also been getting hayfever, never had it before but at 55 started with it. What I have noticed is when I take an antihistamine for the hay fever, the tight also chest goes for a while. I'm planning to go ask the doc next week, but appointments are a week behind at our practice so will probably be a week after! I Don't smoke, only drink at the odd party or wine meal out maybe 4 times a year. Have been told now diabetic type 2, = Metformin 2 a day/ statin, 1 at night, I do have mobility issues and use a stick / crutch, don't exercise as much as I should! I am a long term Morphine prescribed patient, I had a very bad motorcycle crash 35 years ago and have been prescribed Morphine for pain since, I have metal plates and pins in legs arms, shoulder, i'm 5.8 tall and 13 stone. Could this be the start of asthma? Thanks for reading.

Hello Bob, a very warm welcome to the community.

Sounds like you've been a bit bruised and battered and and I'm sorry to know you're struggling more than usual with your breathing just now. Regarding having hay fever and the right treatment for it - I'm sure someone else here would be able to offer some suggestions.

I have asthma, also copd, and it's good that you're organising an appointment with the doc as you could be prescribed inhalers for either of these conditions if this is what you should have.

Let us know how you get on.

Wishing you well ~ Lovelight

Hi Merryoldp

I would certainly get yourself to doctors as soon as you can and get a proper diagnosis. I had VERY similar about 14 months ago. I wasn't very pushy and left things go on. Now just been diagnosed with severe asthma/COPD. It was a real shock. I do wonder what the wait of 14 months has done.

There are so many lovely and knowledgeable people here on this site who will offer you lots of support and advice but get to the docs. Ask to see the Asthma nurse who can check your readings at least.

Keep us informed in how you get on.

Kindness always

Welcome,

You have to be pushy with these GP's surgeries, so please do go and get an appointment very soon, or pop into your local hospital A & E if you have a tight chest as they would give you a good check over....please don't leave it.....make sure your puffers that you take for your asthma are not empty!!

Hope that helps....Take care

Thanks for the replies and advice, It's not so bad now the whether has cooled a bit. I'm still going to ask GP about it though. caught me by surprize. Thinking about it, it was after an hour or 2 in the garden the first time I noticed it. Its a bit scarey, this can't get your breath thing, my father suffered with Emasemia, and used to struggle at times, but he worked in a pit for the first 15 years and smoked Woodbines like they was a sweets, That was in the 1940 / 50's when men were men and lungs were hardy! Thanks agian I will keep you informed as to what the doc says. Cheers Bob.
