Anyone had Acupuncture?

Was thinking of going to see if they can help restore my appetite, I am eating quite well but putting on weight is not happening, also wondered if it could help with sleeping problems.

Would love to get your experiences.

I am a great believer in acupuncture! A few years ago my (then) fifteen year old daughter was almost incontinent with a bladder problem that no-one could help with. Faced with years of medication which gave her some awful side effects I asked if she would be willing to see an acupuncturist. I found a lovely lady who lives nearby - talked to her about my daughter. After between 8 and 10 treatments my daughter was cured - honestly. She now lives a normal 18 year old life which we just never envisaged!

During my investigations and research on COPD I found that there is very good evidence that acupuncture though by no means a cure can help. I duly took my husband but to be honest he was in no mood for the treatment, found it very annoying because it was in the middle of the day (his working day). I saw an improvement in him but he felt he could not commit to once a week for eight weeks!! He is soooo bad at putting his own health first even when he has severe COPD!

Recently I have been feeling awful - quite depressed actually and so lethargic and put weight on! I have been for treatment and found it very beneficial. For me there is no immediate difference - the improvements creep up on me but after only three treatments I am feeling much more like my old self. My only advise would be to do your research and talk to the therapists and then pick the one you felt you had an affinity with. Good Luck TADxxx

No personal experience but IMO, anything is worth trying of there's a hope it would help. Good Luck !

Hi polly, Pete had acupuncture once in 2007 for a back problem and it did seem to help. He found it to be fine with no problems. It is worth giving it a try and I do wish you luck with it. xxxx

Spent my life believing in this both in France and the UK, I had a Bells palsy on my face ad it stopped it quickly progressing, you do need to use a specialist in a good clinic or it could be a waste of time always choose the best one and its a wonder, you cannot have it if your epileptic though and your therapist will also do a health chart first with you, not painful but excellent therapy.

Acupuncture really work on many ailments. I had it regularly some years ago as did my husband and son.

I helped to run a holistic health centre some years ago. The 3 acupuncturists were very popular, particularly with the pain of arthritis and women's things.

It's definitely worth a try. I know they treat the person holistically.

I took my son to a homeopath for several years with his asthma too.

And reflexology was really amazing but it has to be a thoroughly qualified clinical reflexologist not some fly by night who's done a two month course, same with acupuncture, make sure they're on a registered list.

Thank you everyone I will look for someone local who is on a registration list.

I missed the end of your question re help to sleep. I feel sure it is definitely worth a try.

I recall once when I was having acupuncture she put the needle in and it was exactly like having a pre-med. I felt a wave of total relaxation wash over me. It was marvellous and the moment I thought "wow, this really works".

The needle are really fine btw, like a hair. P
