Hi I have a wee pug and have just vacuumed the floor . The amount of hairs was disgusting and the floor was hoovered 2 days ago. I don't think breathing in this envoirnment is doing me any favours

Nige & Tad, this morning I had a go coming Fred with my friends Furminator Comb. I couldnt believe how much hair I got from him and I groom him at least once every day (I admit I'm OCD about dog hair). It was staggering.

I'm going to have to get one. They're expensive but I've spent a small fortune on useless combs & brushes over the years.

Lucky for me I'm not allergic, I hope you 2 & Mr Tad aren't!

Hi Nige. He/she's a chubby one lol. I've got a black Patterdale and because his mum was a terrier with wiry hair, (I expected the lovely smooth coat his dad's got.) it's a nightmare trying to keep on top of the hair, it gets everwhere. I'd love one of those fancy, light vacuums but their £200 because I haven't got the energy to push my heavy vac. all over the house daily. (Fibro.) He's also very naughty, constantly running off, attacking other dogs when out walking ect... and he's only 3 years old so it's going to get harder and harder but, there's not much I can do.

What a sweet little dog. You can get vacuums with pet hair filters. I vacuum every day as we have a cat. She is short haired but I just like to keep any dust and cat fur out of the carpets. I do think that carpets are a pain anyway if you have breathing problems but your dog is great and I am sure he means the world to you. Take care. xxxx

I have a pomeranian and after a lifetime of super big super furry dogs I know lots about living with our faithful friends and their fur! My family will tell you that I have an infatuation with hoovers. At one time owning 7 in the quest for something light enough not to render me totally breathless yet do the big areas, corners, stairs and pick up the hairs. I have now cracked it. I have a G Tech for the bigger areas and a Dyson DC 59 (the one you can hang on the wall) for the rest. It has a powered head which is amazing for doggy fur and is easy to empty and clean. You could manage with just the Dyson. You will need a mortgage to buy it but worth every penny. happy hoovering.

Hey stillstanding I have a dyson animal with the brushes in the head. This lifts the hairs well I just couldn't believe the amount of hairs that my wee Sid has cast in 2 days.

I also have a cat she's 21 years old and spends the majority of her time including nights outside. I notice when she does come into my home she casts as well however her hairs are a lot lighter than SIDS and the slightest breeze sends her hairs airborne.

I have a border terrier, she is almost 11 months. She casts but it hasn't had any real sort of effect on me. That said we only have carpet in the hall the rest is laminate. Does it affect your breathing or are you just concerned its contributing to the problem?

hey Nige 420 I think these companies are missing a trick. They should get us puffing billies to test their hoovers.

Haha I wonder how much they would pay us?

I groom my Labrador with a rubber horse brush and then wipe her all over with a damp cloth it brings all the loose hair off leaving less on the floor. I have a dyson the animal one it is heavy but I live in a bungalow so I don't have to drag it upstairs I also have wooden floors in my bedroom and I find that helps
