Glad you enjoyed my little movie on the Malverns jimmy, its amazing what you can do with a cheap little digital camera these days, of coarse I was just an extra as my daughter stole the leading role, Kidds eh'.

It took a few hours to get up there and about 15 mins to get back down, gravity is our enemy and our friend right jimmy.

I'm not sure my lung consultant would like to see me up there but pushing myself seems to be working so why stop eh'

Think my daughter's gonna like you :)

My first thought on seeing the trek up them hills, was ***** I could never do that. Then I sat and thought for a while and concluded, nope definitely couldn't do that LOL. Have been spoilt today though as son has been personal shopper, chef and washer up so that I can go on the treadmill without being half dead to start with! Plus the cat is outside watching birds so it's free to use ..................... laters! and extremely well done :) xx

dall05 profile image
dall05 in reply to scrobbitty

Believe me on my way up I think I can't do it but somehow inch by inch I find a way and the feelings just great once you get to the top. I love that you have to share the treadmill with the cat, they just love sleeping on them don't they. Maybe we should try that too and forget the exercise. :)

These sons and daughters can be quite useful at times can't they even if its only to hold a camera and give a piggy back. Ha Ha.

You wouldn't believe how good that cold pint tasted as we sat in the sun. The weather makes all the difference, lets hope we get some more of it eh' TS3. Who knows I might even make another movie as an excuse to visit the pub again. :)

.Hi Tony,

I cannot begin to tell you how impressed I am with what you achieved going up these beautiful hills. I am nowhere as ill as you are and if I walk down to my local post office and back which is up a short steep hill, but does not compare with your real hills, I am spent for the day. Well done, and you are such an inspiration to us all. Your lovely daughter is so supportive of you and you are obviously very close. The scenery was stunning, and it was nice to put a face to the name. I hope you are not all stiff and sore after doing all that, but I think you will say it was well worth it. Good luck Tony and take care. An extra big hug tonight. hugs xxx

dall05 profile image
dall05 in reply to huggs

Thanks for the extra big one huggs, its pretty tough work getting up that hill but once I'm at the top and my breathing steadies its such a great place to be.

My daughter is suffering worse than me today, not from the effort going up the hill but from the hay fever caused by the breeze and long grass :) Do you think I should go back to work for the Malvern Hills tourist information seeing as I'm doing such a good job at selling them.

I used to think hills were places to avoid when your lungs are failing but now I see them as my friend and a great place for some real exercise. I also used to avoid stairs but now I avoid lifts so it seems living on the Malvern's is a good place to be for a healthunlockeder.

OK definitely have to walk further, got myself a thingy wheel and a stopwatch. So this time next year I'll be ready to take that walk with you. The view was amazing and your daughter gorgeous. You, of course, may be the eighth wonder of the world, my hero.

My trip today was a little more prosaic, got out of my chair, tripped over the dog, hit the corner of the wall and slid down, landing in a twisted heap. Oh the pain, and no one in, once it got to a dull throbbing began to think about how I was going to get up. So bum shuffled to the sofa and eased myself up. Still sitting there when hubby got in from the fish and chip shop.

All's well that ends well, I am now sporting a great set of carpet burns and some marvellous bruises. It's a good thing that this dormouse has a substantial layer of winter fat to protect those not so very weak bones. Chat soon D :) x

dall05 in reply to DozyDormouse

Hi DD, it sounds as though you had a bigger work out than me without leaving the house, I should try that sometime :)

I hope your not too sore tomorrow, maybe with a bit of luck your fish & chip medicine will ease the pain.

Glad you enjoyed the Malvern Hills experience, as they say a picture tells a thousand words so I thought its about time I made another video. This time I uploaded onto U tube so you were able to watch it. :)

8th wonder :) xx

Brilliant! I'm impressed! However, you've made me feel that I'm very lazy and should do more - and I should!

dall05 profile image
dall05 in reply to frose

We should all do more than we do Struggle, I'm lucky enough to have the Malverns which makes exercise a lot easier and enjoyable. Well when the weathers nice :) I use my treadmill in the winter.

frose profile image
frose in reply to dall05

Well I'm not too far from the Malverns, though haven't been up there since I was a teenager! Recently I've been walking along the canal (was going to add photo but can't see where to do it on phone!) but that hardly poses the same difficulty as hill walking!

Its not surprising that you have a beautiful daughter Tony, she's got a pretty amazing dad (well, not pretty, amazing though)

I'm very lucky to have a close and supportive family around me, they never try and stop me doing crazy things like getting to the top of that hill, sometimes I wish they would. Ha Ha.

Well done again Dall. I hope your determination rubs off on the rest of us. What great views and well worth the effort of the climb I reckon. Good to see your daughter helping you. What a nice lass. Keep up the good work ! :)

It'll be 4 years in a few weeks since first falling I'll, a four month stay in Hospital followed. A lot of that time I was so out of breath and weak I couldn't even roll in the bed so I'm very very happy with being able to get to the top of the Malverns now. It was something I dreamed of when stuck in that bed. :)

Thanks puff, I got you to the top of my hill didn't I through the camera lens. :) Great en it'

dall05 in reply to Puffthemagicdragon

Great attitude Puff, that's what I think when I'm making my way up the Malverns, it doesn't matter how long it takes as long as I can do it.

I'm out of puff at the top of our stairs so it just shows what is possible if you pace yourself.

I'll get you up the hills again soon through my camera lens puff so watch this space eh'

Bet your looking for a hill to climb now eh' Argana. Take my advice, make it a mole hill it'll be a lot easier. Ha Ha.

in reply to dall05

Climbing the stairs can feel a bit like climbing the Malverns sometimes, except the view isn't as good :) I don't think I'll be climbing any hills for a while but like you I'll be putting one foot in front of the other and going as far as I can. I was genuinely very inspired and heartened by your video and agree with the person who suggested a blog/ facebook page of your exploits. It would be a great way if raising public awareness of the realities of chronic lung disease.

dall05 profile image
dall05 in reply to

Your right Argana, there is too much ignorance surrounding lung disease and it would be good to do something to improve this situation.

I'm glad you enjoyed my little video even though its just me putting one foot in front of the other it kind of shows the real troubles we suffer just breathing. It also shows that we don't have to give up, just slow up!! :)

That was incredible Tony, I was trying to breathe for you at the top. Don't know how you do it but you are certainly inspirational. I will certainly give it a bit more welly at rehab next week after watching you.

There are times when I think a portable ventilator and defibrillator might come in handy :) . Its funny how we can become so used to breathing so heavily its just normal now. My daughter could have run up and down that hill 5 times to my one but I'm happy I can just do it.

Give it some welly pollyjj, they say its good for us don't they. :) hopefully thier right!!

You should start a blog or Facebook page. It would be a really good way of making people aware of your condition and what you can still do. It'd give people hope. I'll share it.

dall05 profile image
dall05 in reply to BattyMumma

I do remember when I was pretty ill in hospital with no muscles left and extremely poor breathing it did seem that I could never get back to where I am now but I decided to give it my best shot. At the time all I kept asking the nurses and physio's was if I could talk to someone who had been through this but It never happened. I know that would have made a massive difference to me psychologically as the battle was mental and physical.

It would be good to help others in anyway possible. :)

Take a bottle with you o f l just in case nature calls :) . Get out there and do what you can, however small, build it up slowly then pick a hill, preferably a small one. Ha Ha

Oh yeh' take a camera and show us all eh'

I've done a lot of walking in my time ...... Offa's Dyke, Wye Valley Walk, The old 60m Malvern's Discovery Trial, Long Mynd, Coast to Coast & a lot of general Fell walking ........ so yes, I seriously miss walking - holidays have taken a totally different direction - I'm not a beach & sandcastle type of person.

........ Now, on to more important things, The Bulls ........ do you know what's happening? It doesn't look at all good as far as I've heard.

dall05 profile image
dall05 in reply to out-for-lunch

I've no idea whats going on at Hereford but it all sounds seriously bad news. At best were in the Southern league at worst were NO MORE!. As Victor would say ' I can't believe it!'

It sounds like you were a serious walker, even if I get a transplant I can't imagine doing any of those distances, I was more cycling and Tennis before the lungs decided to shut down. Its certainly a life changer en it'

If the Bulls are in business next season I'll meet you there for a match whatever level their playing at :(.

such a shame after last seasons great escape.

Lets hope we have a team and a ground to go to eh' What we need to do is win the euro millions and then we'll save the Bulls with the small change.

Video turned out quite well didn't it js but I felt like an extra on the set with my daughter stealing my starring role. Ha Ha . She's got energy to spare, its a shame I can't tap into it.

We had some fun on the Hills and I'm glad I posted it now, it seems to have had some good reviews. :)

Thank you Tony, I hope this spurs others to do more.

I've just come back from a few days away where I did a lot of walking, much more than I do at home and I was surprised at how much I could really do.

Perhaps we give up to easily..........................

Keep up the walking, you should be really proud of what you have achieved.

dall05 profile image

Hi Riverbank, I do these walks to get fitter and to try and improve my situation but it would be great to think that posting the video could get others motivated to do the same.

I'm going to polperro for a week soon so I'm looking forward to walking on the beaches and breathing the sea air. :)

As you say its surprising what we can do if we give it a go, its not easy is it but its worth it yeh'

Thanks Tony :)

Well I am very impressed. I am only moderate but was breathing hard just looking at the rest of the climb to the top. Looks like I have to get in gear as I have quite a ways to go to be able to keep up to you.

Do you know how far you actually walked and what the elevation was as it appears to be pretty significant both in distance and elevation? I assume you had to walk back down afterwards?

Very nice to see your daughter spending time with you as well as sometimes kids don't realize how much their parents mean until after they are gone.

dall05 profile image
dall05 in reply to jackdup

Hi Jackdup, The walk itself isn't really that far 1/2 mile 3/4 mile something like that but its pretty steep right from the off and there's no let up. Sometimes I wonder if I'm pushing things too far but so far its worked so I won't stop.

Of course walking back down its oxygen off and I look a completely different person, my muscles have been strengthened through exercise so its only my lungs that let me down now. Weird this lung disease isn't it, I'm out of breath just loading the washing machine and doing up my laces yet I can get to the top of the Worcester Beacon?

Exercise and getting to my correct weight have been very beneficial for me so I recommend both to everyone. :)

Thanks for your reply Jackdup
