My Gp gave me extra medication to help me swallow but it lasted two weeks and was very unpleasant. I have now been told I need intravenous drip for my bones and they say it has similar side effects. is anybody else in this situation?

I have osteoporosis probably caused by steroids over the years. After taking alendronate medication it stopped me from swallowing food .
I have osteoporosis - not because of steroids as I have only been taking them on and off the last couple of years - it is genetic in my family (women) I took alendronic acid for 7 years but a friend of mine kept hinting I should find out more about it. I looked it up online and got all sorts of helpful info....the main being that you should not take it longer than 2 - 5 years. Also side effects include LOTS of problems with the oesophagus and I had had some unpleasant feelings in that area for quite a while. I immediately stopped taking the alendronic - did tell my doctor and he looked a bit sheepish when I told him how long they had let me on it. I just take calcium with Vit D now and painkillers when I have the chronic bone pain.I feel a lot better than I used to. Of course, this is all personal but thought you might be interested. good luck
Hi thanks Louisiana I will speak to my GP and see what I can do as I am apprehensive about the oesophagus problems I have had. I am already taking Omeprazole for this but does not seem to work with the osteoporosis meds .
