This might sound silly. But I've only just been put in oxygen.

I started taking my rescue meds yesterday as I thought I was having a flare up. My levels on oxygen was 90 normally they would be 95 in oxygen. I presume your levels go down when your not well.

I also meant to say I've been put on 4 litres on rest. Should it be higher when I'm walking about as the hospital haven't said.

what are your levels with oxygen?

Normally it is a bit higher if you are active. I'm on 1/2L/min rest and 1L/min active.

I would check with your Respiratory Nurse before you use a higher rate of oxygen Michelle.

I am prescribed to use up to 5 litres ambulatory although if I am doing something not too 'active' I can often get away with using 3 or 4 litres.

It is not a good idea and could be dangerous for you to up the oxygen flow without consulting your respiratory team. Too much oxygen is as bad as too little. Give them a ring and tell them your readings are down or see your GP and let someone with expert knowledge of your condition make the decision. After all, would you up the dose of any other of your medications yourself?

I agree with the others. It is dangerous to increase your oxygen above that prescribed. If you are unwell your oxygen sats would go down as your breathing is affected. 90 is still within the ok parameters.

I would phone your oxygen nurse and ask for advice. S/he will know what your blood levels are and may suggest a temporary increase. But don't increase on your own as you could cause real problems.

mine seem to go down when having a bad day breathing or with proper exacerbation/infection.
