Had a really awful day today so breathless all day. My stats at 95 96 oxygen PR 80 to 86 at rest but still feel I can't catch my breath. It is making me weepy now which just isn't me at all. Sorry for the moaning and groaning.

I'm with you Suzy, been in tears today myself. For me its a mixture of the sheer exhaustion of breathing and the fear that this bad day is my new normal level. I very rarely let it get to me but it's got me twice this week. But now my breathing has eased and so have my tears. Hope yours go the same way. X

So sorry to hear that Suzy ! I've started listening to music in be to try and relax my breathing and it helped a bit. sob is unbearable when it's bad or persistent, so no harm in crying. Maybe tomorrow will be better. I hope so.

Oh Suzy, what a shame and you know you don't have to apologise for not feeling well. I was like that on Thursday and bursting into tears at the least little thing. If you are really breathless then naturally it makes you anxious as it is a scary feeling. Is it humid where you live at the moment, because as you know that does not help at all.? All of last week it was very humid here and it definitely affected me. Do you have medication that you can increase while you are like this? I just read the other day that there is a definite proven scientific link between copd and anxiety, and there is medication available for this. Cant remember what it is called but begins with a Ci. Now try and relax by doing something simple, and will not use up a lot of energy that you enjoy. I think if you are distracted it may lessen your anxiety and help your breathing. We all know how easy it is to get into the vicious circle. Love the picture you have posted. You always come up with great pictures or inspirational words. You can come on here or pm me and moan and groan as much as you like. We have all done it, and we will all do it again. Its par for the course with pulmonary disease, and you know we understand. Have you read all the latest jokes? If not they might help, or if they are mine they might make you weep more. LOL. Take care, and remember you are not alone and you will come through this and be your old self again. Sending you lots of gigantic hugs and thinking of you. hugs xxx

T'hanks so much twiceshy3. That's very kind of you and I'm sure Suzy will appreciate it very much. I don't think she'll be down for long though. However, she may put on a face so to speak, as we all do. I do that all the time, and then end up resenting others around me for appearing not to understand how I'm really feeling? How crazy is that? I hope you are keeping ok at the moment. Take care. hugs xxx

Just been prescribed citalopram ... does it make breathing worse?

onamission profile image
onamission in reply to

Hi Juliekkay citalopram is an anti depressant I take nortriptoline which is being used as a nerve blocker for my lower back 50mgs per day and no side effects but I have days when I get so frustrated I could cry.

I use citalopram, it is working for me, feel a lot calmer and it has not made my breathing worse. Hope you feel better soon Suzy.

I think what huggs says is right. Can you take more medication? Are you able to wait till Tuesday to talk to your doctor.

I just wonder if there's an infection lurking around? That's why a talk to a doctor would reassure me if I were you. Have you got any Prednisolone? they can help im;rove your breathing.

Don't beat yourself because you feel ill. Take it as easy as possible and get to talk to a doctor to check if anything can be done to improve the situation. I sincerely feel for you, as I, like others have felt the same not nice feelings.

Well Suzy my husband has been the same today even with oxygen - took the girls to a local shopping centre it was bloody torture for him. Just awful, haven't seen him as breathless for a long time. Really just to say you are not on your own and let's hope tomorrow is a better day, lots of love TAD xxx

Sorry ts3, I don't believe its just the feet! When in the past, very rarely I have had to sit through a football match it most definitely not the feet that got me through the match! I genuinely love watching tennis which does have other bonuses!! Take care. hugs xx

HaHa Tony,I could think of other things, besides his feet! xx

Hi dall05, I take it you are of the male gender then? ha ha. Enjoy Wimbledon. I can't make a cheeky comment to you after my responses to football and tennis. I bet you love the beach volleyball at the Olympics! Did you mention the world cup? Please don't tell me its on this year? . Although with the advent of digital TV and SKY the world cup won't interfere too much with Wimbledon. Years ago it use to interfere terribly with Wimbledon and I was never off the phone complaining to the BBC. Not that it made any difference. Take care of yourself. hugs xxx

Hi Huggs, I used to play a lot of club tennis until July 09th 2010 when double pneumonia came from nowhere and started a chain of events that has slowed me up a little.

At least I find the time now to sit and watch beach volleyball, as they say every cloud has a silver lining eh' :)

I think it was Englands poor performance 4 years ago that put me in shock so I blame them for my illness. I hope they put things right with me this time around and bring that dam cup home.

What are my chances, Maybe I should book an ambulance now eh' :)

You take care too Hugs. xxx

Hi Dall05, Where I grew up there was no opportunity to play tennis, although I did play badminton. I have followed tennis avidly throughout the year for the past 38 years. In fact I use to take my annual leave sometimes just so I could watch Wimbledon all day. So you enjoy your tennis then? You must have been pretty good at it. I have never played a single game but I am brilliant at tennis! I shout at the TV telling them all the shots they should play. I have to make sure my windows are shut when any of the Grand Slams are on. I am absolutely delighted, ecstatic and full of joy that I saw a male British player win Wimbledon. The fact that he grew up 5 or 6 miles from where I grew up makes it even more special. You now know I am Scottish. Is Scotland in the world cup or is that a really silly question? If Scotland aren't in it then I'll root for England, but I wont be watching it. I will be there in spirit. I wouldn't book an ambulance as it would tempt fate and you are far too intelligent to let a game of football damage your health further. I know what you men are like when it comes to football. A lot of you get all stressed about it, like it was a matter of life and death. Mind you, I can't talk as I'm the same with tennis! I was in tears when Andy won. Nice talking to you Dall. keep well. hugs xxx

hee hee hee. Sorry twiceshy3, I started reading your post to Suzy and then began to think that you were losing the plot as you talked about someone's feet! I quickly realised you were talking about football but it was funny to me (no nothing about football) reading it. Good distraction tactic. Well done. hugs xx

Hi Suzy, My breathing has been good today but I do feel particularly saddened after warriors reported that her husband lost his battle with ILD. She has two young children which make's things so much worse. :( .

Tony

Do you think you might have an infection coming Suzy? Keep an eye on it and if it gets worse don't be afraid to ring an ambulance. Don't take chances with your lungs. x

Big hugs to you Suzy, moan away,we all know where you're coming from! Some good advice here as usual!if you can distract yourself,it is a good thing.Anyway hope things are better by now,& tomorrow is another day!Take care, xxxx

Hope you're feeling improved today Suzy. Sometimes it just gets to you ... Take things easy, be kind to yourself, and see a medic if it continues - no risk taking in the name of bravery!

Hi Suzy, I hope you are feeling more like yourself today. I really think the weather has a lot to do with our breathing problems at the moment. Even people with no pulmonary disease are complaining that they can hardly breath, which is obviously a bit of over drama on their part but I know what they mean. Hope you enjoyed the bit of banter as well. I have some jokes about idiots which I am going to post later. I strongly emphasise that they are not connected with anyone on this site!! You take care now, and let someone spoil you for a while. Meanwhile think of something you are looking forward to and put on some lively music. Big hugs to you xxxx

This may sound silly but it is hayfever season, if don't take my hayfever pill in the morning it upsets my breathing for the whole day.

Huggs and others here give really sound advice. I have lost count of the times i have felt so sad and scared thinking that I will never get back to my normal level if breathlessness ... then maybe weeks later I do ... its tough and tears are a release. I try not to cry tho as it creates more mucus! So hope you seebetter times soon. X

Aww Suzy...that's such a beautiful photo; what breed of dog is that? As for the goat...I picked one of these up once and cuddled it :)

So sorry to know you're struggling just now. Have noticed that even though I may be very breathless, when I use the oximeter it tells me I am just within range...well 90-93 which doesn't make much sense to me.

I think that can only leave acute or chronic hyperventillation or unable to expel air making it difficult to breathe in.

You not moaning and groaning but telling it like it is. Sending a warm hug...Lovelight xxx

How did you manage to include this photo in your post Susy?

I have tried a few times but still can't work out how to do it.

I hope you can manage to feel happier very soon. It is not nice to be short of breath and can be very frightening.

Take care.
