Hello folks just a quick question, I have been referred to Southampton General Hospital respiratory Clinic. Does anyone else go there? is the parking near the clinic ?
Southampton is 30 miles from where I live and it looks like its going to take all day.
I am a chocolate tea pot. I have just moved to the area covered by Southampton General but at the moment have no idea of its services -- touch wood. Thanks to azithromycin. All the best xx
I know this hospital is really good and specializes in lung problems. Its just the getting there on time and parked that always worries me especially when I am on my own (unless I can persuade him indoors to come which will probably be more stressfull!) maybe we will meet one day ! unknowingly many thanks Irene

I was at the QA and that's a nightmare for parking and finding your way round, so I know how stressful it is on top of health problems so my consultant came to Fareham community hospital for my appointments which was 2 mins drive from me, he was a lovely man and they were a wonderful team. The car parks are very near to the main hospital entrance. The general car park, where there is usually a queue, is slightly closer than the one for blue badge holders. Parking prices are the same in both. You take a ticket then pay as you leave – not particularly cheap, but average for hospitals these days.
There is a bit of a trek to get to the Respiratory Clinic from the hospital entrance – walk through the shopping mall (yes, really), turn right past the Costa Coffee shop, then take the lift up to the next floor (I think it's D). Out of the lift, turn left and Respiratory is right there. It probably only takes about 5 - 10 minutes, but the walk from car park to Clinic was too much for me at one time - a wheelchair solved the problem then, but these days I can walk it slowly.
The physios, nurses and doctors in the Respiratory Clinic are all lovely. I hope they are able to help you as much as they've helped me. All the best, Jan 
Lucky you. I live 20 miles from Southampton. Although fortunately I am fairly fit and well at present and have not been referred to them I feel lucky to live in an area with a hospital with a Respiratory clinic as good as at Southampton..possibly the second best in the country after the royal brompton. I think the effort to attend will be well worth it. So grab a wheelchair and know you are in the best of hands.
The Respiratory Centre at Southampton General is brilliant. All the staff there are really helpful, friendly and supportive. I've been a patient there for a number of years and can not recommend them highly enough.
With regard to access, as Jabber said, The Respiratory Centre is a bit of a trek from the main entrance, especially if you're struggling to breathe! As an estimate, I'd say approximately 120 meters (131 yards). If you need assistance getting there, the hospital Main Reception is just on your right as you go through the main entrance doors. You can ask there for a porter to wheel you up to the Respiratory Centre if necessary, or if you have someone with you who can push a wheelchair, they are usually available just past the entrance to the Main Reception on the right hand side.
With regard to car parking, the nearest disabled car park (car park 2) is very approximately 80 meters (87.5 yards) from the main entrance. The general car park (car park 1) is roughly about the same distance away, but depending on where you manage to park your car, the walk can be more than double that. Depending on the time of your appointment, I'd leave plenty of time to get parked, though, as there always seems to be queues to the general car park, especially around visiting times.
From my experience, appointments have usually run pretty much on time. Or maybe I've just been lucky. They haven't been ridiculously late, anyway, otherwise I would have noticed!

I'm exactly the same, Irene. I have to plan everything way in advance so I know exactly what I'm doing and where I'm going -- and also that I'm going to be able to get there! I'm very lucky now in that I get patient transport, and they very kindly wheel me right up to whichever department I need to go to, but the stresses of having to get somewhere on my own are just too much. Which is why I'm up at stupid o'clock this morning getting worried about having to go for a blood test!

I dont know anything about Southampton hosp but appreciate how you feel about going somewhere new ! Parking ,getting there on time where is hosp ,, where is dept and aall this with no puff Then the added bonus of shall i go on my own or have more stress with hubby .!!!! One thing i have noticed is all these new resp clinics are furthest away from the door. I go to north staffs ......3 flights up and as far along corridor as you can go. Any further and you on hellipad. The teeth dept is right next to the entrance. !Whats that all aboutthen ...good luck on your adventure. Sue. X
Many thanks Sue it is reassuring that others feel the same. I am currently seen at Bournemouth Hospital which has been excellent but they are concerned about my allergy levels and my asthma which they have now decided is my main problem. It is not that I get any respite from the symptoms they are every day no matter what and have been since I was 2 years old. At Bournemouth Hospital it is the Heart unit that is upstairs so it makes no sense wherever you go. Thanks for your comments IreneX
parking is near hospital entrance. recommend being dropped off at doors if someone else is driving. disabled parking is close too
