Welcome to the site bobs. No, never heard of them but if I could afford to go private (&when I win the lotto) I'd be researching the actual consultants who work in an organisation. They usually also do NHS work. So I'd be looking up the medics names in your area.
You can always change your GP if you're having trouble. Good luck. P
You need to research the consultant not the hospital. I go privately a lot of the time to see my respiratory consultant. I chose the consultant first many years ago and have stayed with him.
Thank you, I will do as your advice.
Do you not feel able to ask your GP for a second opinion Bobz? Research I've read into outcomes in the private sphere shows they are just as variable as in the NHS so the private sphere is not the panacea many think it is. I agree with others that it's the person you see who is important and there are good ones. If this hasn't happened already, you can ask your GP for a referral to a consultant - its a good time to do so, as this is a current news item: how badly asthmatics do, how many unnecessary deaths etc, and as far as i know there's no distinction between the NHS and the private sphere.
We all need to become experts at communicating with our health practitioners and most of us here have had to learn to be proactive in this. Try to be upfront about your worries with your GP, and if this feels too difficult then think, as Peeg suggests, about changing to another.
Thank you, I have taken this information on board. I do have a N H S consultant but Its like the N H S are busy and last time I was there I was simply moved too another person who told me that I was very prone to chest infections, keep taking the tablets.
Hi Bobz, this happened to me and I was in bits as I felt so ill and this young registrar was talking to me as if I should just get on with it. I went to my GP and asked his advice and he was very angry and said I should ring the Consultant's secretary and ask to see the Consultant next time as this is my right under NHS rules. I did so and I saw the Consultant the next visit and I was sent for a second CT scan which this time showed up the problem. Don't give up, ask for help. Regarding seeing a specialist privately, I did this at one stage as I felt so ill and nothing was being done. I saw my Consultant within 2 weeks and It cost £180. It was money well spent I feel, as it wasn't long before I began to feel better. Awful having to pay for something we feel is our right, but sometimes it is necessary in order to get help. Good luck and take care. Maximonkey
We have private medical insurance and, yes, I have stayed in two Spire hospitals. It really does depend on the Consultant. I decided I would not return to the first hospital because he wanted to things which 'sucked me in' and gave him more fees! I was desperate at the time and he could seem me quickly. The second time I went on a recommendation and was much more impressed. PMI does not cover continuing care so, having established a diagnosis and a relationship with someone, find out where he operates under the NHS and ask GP to be referred to him.
I've had a number of things done at our local spire hospital and have always had a good experience of them. You can search online by spire hospital and location and consultant. I think there is a basic run down of prices on the web too if my memory serves me right
