Tender fingertips that leave dents?

I am not sure what banner to put this. I have had tender fingertips for some time now. But more so on my right hand if I touch anything I am left with dents in the ends of my fingers. These dents can take some time to recover? Any Idea what is causing this?

I have heard similar in legs and ankles from people with water retention. Might be worth speaking to your GP.

I had a month of water tablets and all it did was make me go to the loo more and feel like I had been kicked in my kidneys.

I do have a heart condition too, but my knees swell up but never my ankles.

I'm also on water meds, heart problems and have the dents on fingertips. So sick of looking at my bathroom! Came here for answers.

My hubby (St Johns first aid trained) has always told me that if you press on your finger and it doesn't spring back up it's a sign of dehydration. Not saying that's what it is...just a possibility?

have been told from another sufferer that critical illness neuropathy could be the reason.

I looked it up I had most of the problems it mentions in the report I read. I was going into MOF and was on a oscillator for 12 days and ventilator for a further 18 days. It took a very long time to get my hands to work properly.

It fits that the muscle loss would cause the dents and the pain could be the lack of padding making my nerve endings more sensitive?

Did the finger nail test and it popped back straight away! Something else to cross off ;)

Oh dear I have just noticed all my fingers when I press them, they don't spring back in fact the indentation takes over 30 seconds to return to normal. Looks like another trip to the doc.

I don't think its dehydration but I am drinking more water now. The skin on the back of the hand is springing back ok though.

Got me worried now, I hope something else is not going wrong with my body.

Its just occurred to me to check side affects of diltiazem a med I take, and for some people that can cause dehydration, the information leaflet says:

Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders

so I will bring that up with my doc on next visit, also checking with the diabetic nurse about this. For anyone happening upon this post as I did. A good place to check meds and side affects is :

for drug interactions here: drugs.com/drug_interactions...

Hope others may find this helpful
