Hi every one, I have had COPD for a long time now and I suffer from flair ups, I sleep upright which my consultant advised me to do but the sounds my chest makes wakes me up. Has any body out there got any advise for me.

Hi Cakes, welcome to the site. Your in the right place and you're doing pretty well so far :) (on here I mean)!

Perhaps a call to the helpline? They are wonderful.

Tell us your diagnosis, you will have lots of replies people are very kind and supportive here and will do there best to support you.

Best regards, Peeg

PS. The BLF can supply you with lots of information about the various lung problems under the umbrella term of copd - and more besides. They have an information pack or you can explore this site, I think all the info is here too. Click on About Us and/or the red balloon above.

Hi and welcome cakes. :)

I have very severe emphysema but I still sleep laying down properly. One thing have learned on this site is that even if we have the same illness and the same level, we are all different.

The best advice I can offer you is to try and clear your airways before nodding off for the night. Some of us take Mucodyne which helps loosen the mucus. Ask your doc for some.

mucodine will clear it when I lay down sometimes

Hi & welcome cakes! I'm sure you will find this site friendly & very helpful, you seem to be doing well at the moment, getting around it.!

Peeg,as per usual, gave some excellent advice,do heed what she said.

I must admit,I'm like Puff,& prefer to sleep Lyeing down, try to sit up at times, but end up Lyeing down,as Puff correctly said!even with the same illness,we all use different ways of doing things, but it's great that we can share & maybe learn something from each other love Wendells xxx

HI I have exactly the same problem, my noisy breathing often wakes me up but even worse wakes up my hubby too. Sadly I haven't yet found an answer even my consultant cannot help. Have tried everything, different pillows and sleeping positions too. Will keep trying and let you know if I ever come up with a solution.

Good afternoon - My husband wakes me regularly with his noisy breathing and chest crackles! Found that if he uses the nebuliser with saline before bed that helps. I would suggest as others have you try the helpline I am sure the nurses will be able to help you. (click on the red balloon in the corner). You must feel so tired. And definitely go back to your GP and ask his help. Take good care, TAD xx

Hi Cakes Ive only had COPD 15 months well that's when it was diagnosed, I have no trouble sleeping and lie flat, the only trouble I have is coughing I've started to cut dairy out has it makes a lot of mucus well I'm experimenting only been doing it since last week so it's early days, I also do exercise by going to the gym when I was diagnosed they said it was mild but the last time I see the nurse she said it was moderate, I sometimes still can't get my head around it has I have never smoked Bliss x

Bliss im similar to you ...just been told i probably have chronic bronchitis (waiting for Alpha 1 results to come back as well) ive never smoked either and until five yrs ago i just went about my life without much ill health. I was misdiagnosed as asthmatic (been treated as asthmatic for 20 yrs!! told at last clinic im not asthmatic!!!) Its a mystery .....definietly some dairy makes me worse cant touch cream or milk i also dont touch bananas as they canbe mucusy too. Im recovering from very bad infection but starting to do more exercise again although in my case this hasnt helped me not get infections ....i train with personal trainer every week ride my horse and am active etc so dont know how being fit helps but will keep at it xxx
