Does anyone on this Forum have Bronchiectasis, if so how is it being treated and is the treatment successful?

I really sympathise that you have all three. I've recently been investigated for both bronch and aspergillosis and don't have them. However, I do have asthma and allergy to mould.
Many Bronchs here but rarely a mention of Aspergillosis. Soon you will have supportive replies from the folks with Bronch at least.
I think it makes a huge difference where you're treated and of course how you're treated.
All the very best to you and I hope they've been caught early (my mini rant: it always annoys me that children / people with CF and Asthma
aren't warned to keep clear of compost heaps, farmyards or anywhere likely to hold the aspergillosis mould spores, grrr). Peeg
PS if I'd had Bronhiectasis I would have been treated with prophylactic doses of Azithromycin for three days a week forever. The a different antiB if I got an infection on top of the Azith.
For Apergillosis it would have been managed with anti-fungals.
Just out of curiosity, did you see your ct scans of the Asperg?

I have just had Aspergilloma removed from my lung. The operation was carried out as they could see the growth on the pet scan but didn't know what is was they obviously thought it was Cancer. When they operated they took the whole thing out and tested it straight away for cancer but when it was found not to be that they then after several days of testing found out it was Aspergilloma. They then gave me these extremely expensive abs for 1 month to ensure that it has all gone. I have just gone back to see the histologist and she said that I probably would not have had any symptons of this aspergilloma which would have stood out from my symptoms of COPD ( which I still have). I have yet to see the surgeon as my six week post op are not up yet but it seems I have still got COPD and have to deal with that as I was dealing with it before. They don't even think think that my many infections were caused by this aspergilloma and in their words they probably would have left it where it was had they known exactly what it was.
I don't know if this helps as I don't have Asthma or Bronchietsas but COPD.
Wow nanny pat. A bit of an adventure, you must have been quite worried that it was cancer.
I was warned not to be shocked if I saw black patches on my CT scan which they would probably tell me was cancer because aspergillosis looks the same if there are pockets of aspergilloma. If it were me I think I'd rather have them out than in I case the spores spread inside.
It was suspected for me because it grew in my sputum tests (yuk, poor GP had to look it up). I had further blood test at hospital to see if there were antibodies but apparently not. Thank heavens.

I have bronchiectasis and COPD which is kept under control with Azithromycin. In the past, I have had many chest infections, and pneumonia once. I have had tests, chest x rays, pulmonary rehab etc., etc.
I still have a rescue pack of antibiotics and a sputum bottle to use if a chest infection sets.
I do get breathless but nearly as bad as some but it does slow me up. All the best x

I have bronchiectasis, asthma and inflam arth. Aspergillus has shown up in my samples in the past, but not enough to warrant specific treatment. There are quite a few bronchiectatics on here but as Peeg says I have not heard it brought up that much. However it has been discussed a fair amount on Bronchiectasis R Us and quite a few folks are being treated or have been treated for aspergillus. Both sites, BLF and BRUS, are very reputable and I am happy to belong to both.

Asthma, about 9 years, Bronchiectasis and Aspergillosis only recently, CT Scan in 3 weeks.
Good luck with the scan hun. Has your con referred you to a respiratory physio to teach you how to do lung clearance and show you gadgets such as the acpella and flutter? You might also want to ask him if he thinks nebulsing saline would be of benefit.

I have broncicatasis I am treated with Azithromycin 3 days a week. Have Spiriva, symbacourt and salbutamol inhalers. Steroids for flare ups. Vit d tablets for the side effects of the steroids. I find that there is not to much info on it out there.

Hello dmb57, and welcome to the forum. There are plenty of us with bronchiectasis, I also have asthma but investigations for aspergillosis fortunately negative. I have been lucky to have a very good result with Azithromycin (taken alternate days) together with seretide and montelukast for the asthma and omeprezole for acid reflux (often contributes to the cough). Also antihistamines for large chunks of the year - my consultant is keen to reduce any source of mucus which may settle in the lungs. But everyone is different and has a different set of medical problems so there is never one size fits all for the meds. What is common though are the basics - no smoking, eat well, get some exercise..... I'd add that keeping in touch on this forum is a 'basic' too. Take care.
I'm new to this site too. I was diagnosed last year with Lady Windermere Syndrome which is a form of bronchiectasis. I use seretide, carbocisteine and at the first sign of infection take 3 weeks of amoxycillin and steroids. I had a reaction to azythromicin. I have only had a couple of months free of infection in the last 4 years. I'm certainly much better than I was before starting the correct medication last year. I use a saline nebuliser too and find that very helpful.
Hi ! yes I have had Bronchectisis for about 30yrs it really drags me down, as both my lungs are riddled with it and now scans showed some type of fungus may also be there its only been the last 3 years that breathing is bad..I smoked for many years which was bad for me, other wise it may not have got this bad.i do hope you don't suffer too much take care. Hi, I have bronchiecstasis COPD with a touch of asthma. I take Q-var and Fostair and Tiotropium puffers, nebulised Salbutamol and hypertonic saline 7%; Azitheromycin and Mucodyne capsules. I am doing PR at the moment but with all my other problems, I'm not sure whether I'm improving or not but fingers crossed, I've only done 4 sessions so a third of the way through. I've never smoked but I've had 'chest problems' since a baby and I'm now 73. So take care and look after yourself and welcome to the site. Lizzy.

Hi, I've had Bronchiectasis for about 10 years. Two years ago I grew Pseudomonas. I take Mucodyne, 2 capsules twice a day, One puff of Spiriva, Two puffs of Seretide 250 twice a day and my blue inhaler as and when I need it (at the moment, once a day seems to be enough). I'm also on prophylactic Azithromycin. One on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I also have a small element of Bronchitis and possibly some Asthma but nobody seems to be sure!! They suspected Aspergillus, but the tests came back negative. Recently had another Pseudo attack. xx
I have Bronchiectasis only although I have colonised Pseudomonas Aeruginosa which flares occasionally. Normal meds are Mucodyne 375 (3x2 daily), Seretide 250 (2 puffs twice daily) and Spiriva 18microgram (2 puffs at night). I have reserve prescription of Ciprofloxacin 750 for when I have a flare-up. Specialist said if I have more than 3 flare-ups in 6 months he would put me on a prophylactic dose of Azithromycin. Hope this helps.
I have had bronchiectasis since a baby I am now 64, it has been a rough ride but I keep hanging in, Wythenshawe have really helped me.We need to keep our chests as clear as possible and get on top of infections before they take hold.
