Hi whit, just lately I have had a similar experience...it's not a chest infection the gp said as she reckoned my lungs were ok but I do cough up some clear stuff during the day....it's just the "yuck" in the morning. I wonder if it's coming from my sinuses as I get a headache and my nose is sore, or from my upper respiratory tract. I hope someone has an idea .

were you asked to give a specimen of sputum. This would determine if you have a chest infection. Clear sputum is ok but if it is coloured, take a specimen down to the surgery, having consulted your respiratory nurse. Are you coughing a lot, feel tired, breathless. Also ring the BLF nurse. (about us - above blue bar)

We will have a normal colour for what we bring up changes in this are a warning. My own production is normally darker than the straw my respiratory nurse tells me is expected without infection.

Having bronchiectasis I always have a lot of mucus. When I don't have a chest infection mine is how you describe. However, I also have chronic rhinitis, I have been told that by Con: apparently it's all connected.

I suffer with a similar thing, I have always put it down to sleeping propped up and open mouth breathing so everything is dried out. My flutter device does help most mornings. One thing I do remember is when my consultant asks for a sample he asks for that first lump of the day, perhaps there is something in it that grows during the night.
