hi Bengunn.

yes, I was 2 weeks on oral ABs then 2 weeks IVs and oral ABs in hospital.

Got home 4th march been feeling rubbish so went to doctor today and back on amoxiclav for another two weeks. Same symptoms as your self.

In total 8 weeks and not getting any better.

Tom.

tomc, I find that Coamoxyclav doesn't work as well as Cyporfloxacin. This is the drug of choice against pseudomonas.

Hi Helingmic. Thanks for your reply but i can't take cyprofloxacin the last time I took it I had Achilles tendinitis and couldn't walk for two weeks so this time my consultant prescribed ceftazidime by I'vs twice daily for two weeks, with one day to go i have started to cough up plenty of gunge so it may be have started to clear the infection.Bengunn.

Ask your surgery for a sputum pot and have this mucus tested. As long as there is lots, the infection is still there. Please don't let this go.

Hi Bengunn, it seems we are all very different. I've read here of people feeling better after a couple of days ABs and steroids. With me, I never seem to get better until after the courses have finished, which to me makes sense, it's not like taking a paracetemol for a headache! I don't know anything about pseudomonas though and the best thing is to contact your gp if you have the slightest concerns. As Squady has said, I find carbocisteine invaluable to thinning mucus and getting rid of it easily, having it sitting in your lungs is not a good thing at all. I take carbocisteine permanently, not just when I have an infection. Good comments from the other replies. Hope your gear box is running smoothly very soon! Libby x

Hi Libby. Thanks for reply,I take your point about ab,s and steroids as I have had 6 infections sinse last October so my consultant had my sputum checked and found the bacteria pseudomonas so obviously the ab amoxicillin wasn't up to the job.She then decided to blitz it with a stronger ab namely ceftazadine by I'v twice a day for two weeks and the last two days I have coughed up loads of gunge and the rapid response nurses who aminister the drug think it may be starting to work on what was a deep seated infection.Fingers crossed.Love Bengunn.xxx

Sounds like you need to see your consultant , send off a sample first so they know what to treat infection with. I have Pseudomonas aeruginosa, this has shown up many times in my samples, and came back soon after treatment with Ciprofloxacin, so now nebulise Colistin daily and have been well for 2 years now.

I know how I would be feeling if this was me Bengunn, so I really do hope you start to get better soon. Its so worrying when all the ab's etc dont work like they used to or should do.. There does seem to be some stubborn things around at the moment...and several people on here seem to having trouble shifting there particular 'bugs' and getting well again

I hope that each day you will feel a little stronger

Yes, I just had this with pneumonia in hospital. usually, I get prescribed Cyprofloxacin which is the drug of choice against this bacterium. It takes about a fortnight. If it doesn't clear, go immediately back to your consultant. You need to feel better after about 5 days or so. You either may have to ave a longer course, or an intravenous drug.

This time, I was in hospital with IV Tazocin and it's been prolonged intravenously with a "suffuser", a kind of bottle that pours Ceftazadine every day for a fortnight.

Pseudomonas is a difficult one for people affected with chest disease. it needs to be eradicated well or it'll cause no end of suffering.

You need to do coughing up exercise with Active Cycle of Breathing Technique: youtube.com/watch?v=l0eKW-A...

You need to clear your chest as efficiently as possible, both with the coughing up exercise and with the AB. Improve;ent should be shown within about % days, even though the course of AB can be as long as 4 weeks!

I hope you feel better soon. If still rattling, go back to consultant, please!

My husband has been in hospital for three weeks, and came home just over a week but he is still unwell, phoned the lung defence team and they have put him on cyprofloxacin and steroids but what gets him down so much is that he feels sick and has an upset stomach does anyone else have this problem?
