Care.Data rollout postponed..

Hi all. Apologies if this has already been posted but just to let you know; As of Tuesday 18th Feb the care.data rollout has been postponed for six months. After sending leaflets out at a cost of £1million, NHS England decided to delay 'to allow more time to ensure the public are fully informed'. It's more likely of course that they weren't getting it done as quietly and unnoticed as they wished and weren't happy about the number of 'opt outs'. In a survey, over 40% of GP's had expressed concern about the Care.Data scheme, with many patients confusing it with the 'Summary Care Record' - an entirely different (and more welcome) scheme. I was shocked last week to find that even most of my colleagues at our local PPG (Patient Participation Group) weren't aware that it was happening - and they are a 'healthcare savvy' group of people. Anyhow - we can breathe a sigh of relief for now - but I will be keeping an eagle eye out for what happens in the Autumn - we may well have to repeat the opt out process all over again.

Good on ya Parvati. Your right we will really have to keep an eye out for this as if they change bits and pieces we may well have to opt out again.

Thanks Parvati, I was wondering what was going on - I've not received any leaflet.

Even if each surgery receives a 1000 opt outs they'll be inundated. Doesn't seem well thought out does it. P

Darn it Parvati, I only put my opt-out letter in to the GP at the beginning of last week. There was no need to have rushed at all. Hey Ho.

Bobby

I am still awaiting a leaflet. Thank you for keeping everyone up to date with what is happening.

Top of the morning Vanessa,

Great post. SumofUs and 38 degrees have been keeping the nation informed and will continue to do so. In other news I notice that DWP are thinking of charging people who appeal against their decisions.Happy times....

Good this has happened and thanks for posting it here Parvati.

However we should be very cautious - remember the "pause" which happened during the process of getting the Health and Social Care Bill through? It made no difference at all, the bill went through - and these care.data plans are one consequence of the H&SC Act.

At least this time there should be more awareness especially if we all work to let all our own contacts - family, friends, work colleagues etc - know about it. My partner had same experience at her PPG group, and at our BE group the majority of ppl there had not heard about it, or didn't realise the implications.
