copd and osteoarthiritis best non prescription medication-voltrol any good¿

hi everyone asking on behalf of my 84 year old dad_ he lives abroad and no access to nhs but really suffering with knee and copd. any advice on suitable gels/ creams to be bought over the counter that wont aggravate copd? THAnks somuch everyone nuha

I use Voltarol... I also have osteoarthritis, I suppose like any other cream or rub on stuff, it's not magic but helps if used every few hours (4 times a day) I'm rubbish at using it as I should and only wait until it's unbearable (silly me). Information says don't use if allergic to diclofenic, aspirin or ibrofen. If I were you I'd ask at the chemist; if you can't get out just give them a ring; I've always found the pharmacist at Boots to be really helpfull. Let's know how you get on its handy to know.

I have same problems as your dad - I bought a "Pain Gone" pen, and didn't expect a lot, but it really works - no medication involved and even if I wake at night I use the pain gone pen (click it around the painful areas of the knee approx 30 times) and a few minutes later I really am pain-free. The cost is max £14.99 (I found mine for bit less on e-bay brand new) so really is worth a try. Good luck

Hi I work in a pharmacy and this was recommended by a customer who has had excellent results its call flexiseq its a topical pain relief but also it gets right into the joints and lubricates its quite expensive upto 19 pound depends where u buy it from but worth a try x

My doc wouldn't prescribe voltarol because it can affect breathing I can only advise, your Dad's doctor should be able to advise what may be ok for him keeping in mind his other medications prescribed.

You could try and find out medications he is already taking and then do a drug interaction check at Drugs.com but really its unknown what may be safe for your Dad without being fully aware of your Dad's medical conditions and treatments as only his professional medical advisers are.

Pain gun is medication free so that may be helpful.
