Well I actually did it

I've ordered a treadmill. My son came today (he use to be a personnel trainer) so we sat down together and I got one to suit me. So I've joined the club just have to sort the music out.

Nice one, much better to puff in the warm indoors with great music; beats battling the gales and pouring rain anyday LOL :)

Everybody seems to have or be getting treadmills Steph and now you have bitten the bullet and got one! Is this the new street cred for COPDers (joke!) I feel sooooo left out.

Seriously would they be any good for someone who sometimes can barely go more than a few yards some days? I've obviously not been watching the posts very carefully. Sara x

I'm left out too Sara. I haven't got one.

Walking on the spot works okay as well!

Suzy6 profile image
Suzy6 in reply to scrobbitty

that's what a nurse told me scrobbitty. She told me to march on the spot. Amuses my family watching me do it. They enjoy the music though.

Kills though, doesn't it? It's taken me months to decide to get a treadmill (space and money!) and finally got a teeny windfall and thought sacrificing a bit of space was worth it in the long run. Have had mine since Wednesday and already it has been noticed that my breathing is calmer when I'm on the phone, so for me, best investment ever. :)

Pleased for you scrobbitty. You sound as if you are enjoying it. I think it is having an uplifting and calming effect on you. Keep going.

I wish I had space for a tread mill but will do my humble bit with my BLF exercises. At my time of life...too ancient.

scrobbitty profile image
scrobbitty in reply to pergola1

Never too ancient! Just do whatever you can do, anything helps.

dall05 profile image
dall05 in reply to Suzy6

Cheaper, don't take up any space, probably just as good for you and still fun. :)

I think we all need to campaign for treadmills to be handed out for COPD'ers. They can only help to keep us out of the hospital respiratory wards, trouble is though the trauma wards might get a little busy. :)

Well the cat hasn't got the hang of it yet still. He sits on it and falls off the edge. Actually that's great PR - the laughing gets oxygen in the lungs a treat! :D

We can start a trend of our own Suzy! Can't think of one right now but something will come to me. Maybe deep sea diving or something! G'night x

scrobbitty profile image
scrobbitty in reply to butter-fly

It is absolutely perfect for someone who can barely do a few yards - indoors, warm, something to hang onto and you can go at the lowest speed to get those leg muscles working. Plus you can either watch the telly or have your music on at the same time. Fabulous!

Couldn't have put it better myself scrobbitty, well said.

Will have to give this serious thought scrobbitty. Everyone seems to swear by it. I could use something to get me going as it's difficult for me to get anywhere except around the ground floor. Thanks. Sara

I so know how you feel on the getting around bit. My lung function is very low and motivation (or lack of it) is the worst thing of all. I have genuinely noticed a difference in just the short time I have had mine and if you are having a slob out day, you can do it in your jammies too! Even if you start off with a minute, it will help. It is an outlay and it does take up a bit of space but for me it is the difference between being alive and kicking this next Christmas or not. It's the one piece of equipment that most people with lung problems can use and want to continue using as it can be fun as well as serious! :) xx (edited cos I can't type tonight!)

Thanks scrobitty, You have really given me incentive. I'm going to start looking today. Will try ebay too as I've had some great bargains from there in the past. (Pity they couldn't have a micro models to save space)

By the way your puffin is so cute and so apt. xx

Morning Sara I got mine on amazon it's not top of the range but it will do for me as I won't be running on it the speed goes up to a very brisk walk or power walking. It was £140. X

More like Chris Rea, 'Road to Hell'. They say you sometimes have to go to Hell and Back to get to where you want. I'm on my way back now and things are getting better. :)

Hi polly play "These boots are made for walking" when you get to the line "I'm going to walk all over you" think of someone who has upset you.. Do you think that would motivate you. It would me.

Hi Suzy6 never thought when I get mine I'll use that song lots of things annoy the hell out of me. Good motivation.

scrobbitty profile image
scrobbitty in reply to pollyjj

Hiya Polly.

Just had a nearly brainwave on the movitation for using treadmills (which I have just put into practice this morning!). If you have the facility, how about starting an audio book when you use the treadmill and if you only listen to it when doing this activity, you might be more motivated to keep on doing it. :)

If you don't have access or the ability to use an audio book, you could have a look on youtube for some great documentaries. I use headphones so I can concentrate fully on listening and because I am not fully focused on just walking, I managed to do longer and wasn't so puffed out either. Just a thought :) xx

dall05 profile image
dall05 in reply to scrobbitty

Good thinking scrbbty, anything to make you want to do it again has got to be a good thing. You can get fit without even realising your doing it. :) x

Tadaa! this is a giant step forward to your improvement. Well done!

At the gym I can only gear the like of "Roar" by Kate Perry. I wouldn't mind Classic FM, but they say they want to encourage us with the jumping beat! So roar it is!
