Hi jacdee, My husband has taken nightnurse tablets when he has been very will although he is not supposed to (his is suffering with severe COPD). He take buttercup syrup which isn't very effective. I would advise you ring the BLF helpline they will know what you can take and / or talk to your local pharmacist. Keep on eye on the mucous if it starts to change colour, you are starting with an infection. Take care, TAD xx

Hi Jacdeee

I have had emphysema for years and I have always taken Max Cold and Flu capsules. Just a tip, try ASDA, Tesco or Sainsburys own brands. The formula is the same but they are half the price. Good luck with it.

The pound shop is another cheap place for cold /flu capsules. But go to the doctor if the mucus becomes coloured .And take care not to overdose on paracetamol as these remedies contain it.

Watch out as well if you take certain blood pressure meds, you shouldn't take the Lemsips with decongestant - your pharmacist will be more than willing to advise...... Gill

Hi Jacdee, are you taking the optimin dose of Mucodyne. It's 2 capsules 3 x daily (not twice per day).

I'm sure you already know about drinking plenty extra so I'll shut up.

I hope you feel better soon xx

Jacdee I would check with the chemist especially if you are taking any other meds.

Like others, i can only say, chemist is best. Would you not ask the doctor to put you on physiotherapy. They teach you how to cough up mucus with different techniques and there are several devices (Flutter, Acapella) that make it easier too.You have to mention all this to your GP or your consultant; they won't mention it themselves! have you got a pulmonary nurse? It's perhaps time to ask your consultant to be referred to ne. These nurses are really helpful with advice and know to whom they should refer you to. don't hesitate to ask for these referrals as it will help you.

Hope you get better very soon.
