yes co-amoxiclav sorry forgot to mention these antibiotics have 125mg clavulanate acid which when antibiotics don't work because they have built a resistence to bacteria the co amoxiclav. stops that from happening allowing the antibiotics to clear the infection

Amoxycillin is essentially the first port of call for all antibiotic presctriptions. There are much stronger ones which do slightly different things. Ask if you can give a sputum sample so they can make sure you are getting the right antibiotic for your infection. Took about 4 different types over 3 months to put me right at the beginning and that was after my lungs were washed out during a bronchoscopy.

yes and yes. Your doctor will advise.

Difficult to answer this without knowing what your underlying condition is so best to discuss with your GP or contact BLF - click on red balloon. If you have IPF certain antibiotics and steroids are to be avoided.

My husband suffers with COPD and when he gets an infection he can end up with 3/4 courses of antbiotics and steroids. He cant take amoxicillin - he is allergic to penicillin and has found that doxycycline works best for him. Very important you do go back to the doctor. Good luck, hope you get better very soon. Take care, TAD xx

Hi jacdee, they changed my meds Sept to flutiform, I asked my nurse Monday what it does and she says it's to stop me from having too many exacerbation's where I have to keep having antibiotics and steroids, still in early stages yet. to know whether it works. But you could ask. Nannyb xxx
