Hurray! I went for my first respiratory physio today.

I was diagnosed with Bronchiectasis back in April and feel I have had to fight for anything I have got.

I was originally told there was no one trained in this in my area. So I asked to be enroled in a Pulmonary Rehab class. The staff there are brilliant the class itself is helping but they have also sorted the physio out for me even though I had to travel to it.

I have never been able to clear my chest but hopefully with the help of the physio I will soon. :)

Hi ptliverpool, it does sometimes feel like that, having to fight for care for our illness and its even more difficult at those times when you feel too ill to keep fighting. But the good news is you got on that PR course, that was well worth fighting for and I am sure the physio is going to be of great help to you too.

All good wishes BC

So pleased you've got some support at last.

Is there a BreathEasy group in your area? The PR people will give you the details if there is and then you can meet up with others in your area and swap experiences and info. Take care and good luck peeg

Great to hear that you have finally got the help you need.

My best advice is to find out who is the best chest physio in your area (I did it by trial and error initially) then make her/him your BEST FRIEND. I am now able to phone my physio direct when I need her (bypassing the hated appointment desk) and she will fit me in, sometimes in her lunchbreak, if I am struggling. I dread the day when she moves on!

Glad your getting the help you need now. I am another bronchiectasis sufferer along with several other lung complaints. It's not an easy road but it's nice to know others understand and here is the place for that. m

Good fight well won. It really worries me that we have to expend energy to be taken seriously. Good luck! :-) :-) Alison

Lovely ptliverpool, yeah Lime Street Station is still standing, then?

Ask the physio about the several ways to empty your chest: clapping of your chest, Active Cycle Breathing Technique, and the flutter device to cough up or the Acapella. You're getting somewhere, brilliant!

Yes! Thanks for all your kind words. I have been twice now, started with active cycle of breathing which didn't really work. I now have the Acapella to try, I am more hopeful about that as It worked a bit at the clinic, so with a bit more practice I should be able to clear my lungs. It was very strange and a bit Yuk to feel my phlem actually coming up for the first time in my life (at 64 years of age) I wish I had known about this years ago as I have suffered with nasal drip for years and have never been able to get rid of the mucus.

Still enough of that yuky talk. Hope you all have a lovely weekend Sunday's weather is supposed to be dry and crisp. Time to go for a walk amongst the Iron Men on the beach, I hope. :)
