Is there anyone out there that is as fed up with just the thought of the oncoming winter? Has anyone heard what weather we are going to have

this winter? Someone told me this morning that we are going to have a lot of snow again. Wish I could get away until next May, and leave it all behind.

You only get stressed out worrying about things you can't do anything about such as the weather! All you can do is make sure you have enough medication for a couple of weeks or more just in case it gets bad.

The Met Office has one of the biggest fastest Comuters in the world and they wouldn't forecast more than a few days ahead so don't believe anyone who says we are in for a BAD WINTER cos they don't know!!

Wrap up warm and enjoy the spectacle while it lasts x

You're so right. I'm usually optimistic, just having a bad day. Is that a photo of a lurcher? they are the most beautiful dogs. I lost mine 5 years ago and I still miss her just as much, you can never quite get over losing a faithful pet can you?

I was just looking at the lurcher. We have had several over the years. Wonderful faithful dogs. Got a tiny yorkie and a toy poodle now ages 13 and 12. Both were in the vets the other day. poodle got most of his teeth out and he's fine now. Little yorkie was kept in over night they were worried about pancreatitis but that's been ruled out and she's to get a scan soon to rule out anything sinister. Cost us a fortune but I am so worried about the little one. my son has two lurchers and they are gorgeous. Sorry for rambling M

Lurcher you are right. The more we worry, the more unpleasant it is. I do hope that all of you has a good heating, strong windows and a good duvet.

I found that by bracing myself, calling the Volunteer bureau (haha), and going to the gym helps. Because if you get out just that little bit, you realize, it sometimes warmer outside

Yup, that's Bob he's about eleven and we have Abi who's a terrier 57 Cross who's nine and Milly the Labrador who is three on the 22nd of next month. I am very lucky to have four Best Friends (including the Wife he hee ) and they get me up and out the door regardless of the weather every day.

My son found Bob tied to a tree on a Friday and the police had moved the Travellers on on the Tuesday so you can imagine the state he was in. It was a Bank Holiday and no one would have him so we took him on for the weekend and we're still waiting for him to go ten years later!!!

I slept on the Living Room floor, with him, for a week to gain his trust and he has repaid it ten times over, don't tell the others but he's my favourite x x

Oh that's so sad. Thank goodness you came to the rescue. Lovely Bob M

You are right about losing a Dog. My first Dog was called Whiskey and he thought he was human! He was an absolute nuisance!! If I was doing something around the house he would sneak up and pinch a screwdriver or a box of screws. He always lay in doorways so you had to step over him all the time and you only had to mention the "walk" word and he would sit by the back door raring to go and being younger and fitter we used to walk miles and miles.

I was devastated when he eventually passed on and decided to bury him in the garden and blow me if the patio we laid didn't subside over him so he had the last laugh on us by still being a nuisance x

How lucky they are to have you. My Georgie was a rescue, she was found in a boarded up house. She had been used for racing and had a lot of untreated injuries. She was very well behaved but we soon realised that she was forced to learn through fear. It took a long time and a lot of patience before she lost her fear of brooms, and that was just one thing. Thankfully our patience paid off and it wasn't long before she was ruling the roost. She gave us so much love, she was remarkable.

Thanks for that. I was feeling a bit down, then I started thinking about my Georgie which made me feel sad, but then you said about whiskey which made me laugh so then I started thinking about the things Georgie used to do and I thought she gave us so much happiness that I should remember those times. Thanks

Hi longlungs, you're so right as is lurcherman. I was just having a bit of a downer, but not anymore. I'm going out on a limb as they say and i'm predicting a mildish fresh winter, with no rain, snow or ice. Just the weather us lot need.

I think that there are a lot of people like yourself that dislike this time of year. For myself, these leaden white skies do nothing for me at all, and I feel for those living on their own. What can be done? If you are actively depressed for any long length of time, you need to talk to your doctor unless it can be avoided. But try to talk to someone, come on this forum. Think the shortest day is around 21/12, after then, the days will start to get longer. Find something to focus your mind on, like a hobby. Make a practice of getting out, if you can, as much as possible. It is up to the individual to work out a plan to pass the time as quickly as poss. Not a lot of help!

Yippie, only 54 days to go until my most favourite day of the year Annie. (Whoops, that means 58 days to Christmas)! I always think it's uphill after 21/12 :)

Thanks for that annieseed . I am usually optimistic, yesterday was a bad day, feeling a bit off. I always keep busy volunteering, committees etc: In fact somebody said I am probably doing too much and i'm overtired.

Ph to be a tortoise and hibernate until next spring

Plan to have cosy time and do inside things you like. Important to get some fresh air when you can too...with silk scarf over nose and mouth if cold. Thats me anyway. X

When I was a much younger woman I used to really dread winter and genuinely feel I could not face another one. Then before I knew it, it was spring and I couldn't believe I had felt like that. Now with all my health problems I'm glad to see another one! M xx

glesgajohn profile image
glesgajohn in reply to onamission

keeping warm will be a task in itself with energy prices

onamission profile image

You're so right about energy prices. The ones who put them up don't care about the likes of us.

I understand if you have COPD and your under 60 you can still get gold weather payment from the government but you have to be claiming benefits like DLA or ESA

I always get a bit down when the clocks go back. It means winter is on it's way and I have always hated the cold. I am amazed that a few of my friends and relations actually like it!

BRRRRRR!

Keep warm everyone and keep out of the storm if it is bad near you. (It's not bad here)

Here in the Midlands we were supposed to be getting it bad, thankfully apart from it raining , and it has stopped know we're ok. thank goodness.

I don't mind the cold if it's dry and clear.

I lived in Stockholm many years ago. People say oh wasn't it dark all the time but I never noticed because the snow made it light and most days the sun shone out of blue skies. Lovely. People dress for it there though and have insulated homes.

I've just ordered my first pair of slippers (M&S kids, cheaper) fleecy red boot things and a pair of kids fleece lined mucked boots to keep feet warm & dry.

Might just start hoarding cans of soup too.
