Fantastic news.

One year on from diagnosis and I had a spirometry test today. My FEV1 has improved! It was 55% and is now 65%.

The reason? The work I do at the gym. Exercise IS worth it.

What fantastic news Lynne! See it really does pay off doesn't it? I think my spirometry has stayed the same which is fine for me. But I do enjoy exercise and I do feel much better in myself and I know the condition of my body is better.

It varies, but 2 to 3 times per week. Treadmill, exercise bike and rowing machine.

in reply to Lynne1955

how many minutes on each ?

Lynne1955 profile image
Lynne1955 in reply to

30 minutes treadmill then 10 minutes each on the rest. When I started though, I could only do about 10 minutes on the treadmill at 3mph.

Fab news Lynnne Wish I could manage that, as you know we are all at different stages of c.o.p.d. so we do what we can.

Exactly. It's great to do as much as the body will allow.

Glad you are being rewarded for the hard work you have put in. Joyce

That's great news Lynne, congratulations. You don't have to convince me exercise is so worth it :) that and stopping the fags is I believe what helps us the most. It goes without saying the pulmonary rehabilitation course makes us more aware, gives us the tools to manage our illness, all the things that help us the most.

So glad you are seeing great benefits from your efforts.

Best wishes BC

Thats great Lynne. I agree with excercise. I have just finished rehab and can do a lot more than I used to. I wish I had known about it about 5 years ago when I was at the moderate stage and then I would have realised how important it was.

Well done Lynne, exercise is the right way to go and your improving spirometry is proof of that. Over the last 12 months I have upped my exercising and even though my spirometry results have remained the same my overall fitness has improved.

Keep up the great work :)

well done Lynne I have also been out for my regular exercise I had my spine block yesterday so I have 8 weeks before it wears off to get in as much exercise as I can. I'm level 4 COPD but because of lower back problems I can't exercise on land so I go swimming.

Well done you! That good news makes up a bit for the miserable time you've had recently. I know that if I don't get any exercise for even as little as a week, I really feel the difference, get out of breath more easily etc.
