I was over at my Dads last Thursday, It was a cool cloudy grey day so under a little pressure from my step mother, who feels the cold, my Dad lit the wood burner. It was lovely to sit in front of a real fire again and it wins hands down for effect compered to my central heating I have back home. I might visit my Dad a lot more through the winter :) .

Sensibly my oxygen was kept in the next room as I thought that a stray spark may just send us all into orbit. :(

I've attached a photo to warm you all up a bit on these cooler evenings

Great isn't it, the house is over 300 years old and used to be very damp and cold when I lived there as a young boy but that's just the way things were then and we didn't know any better. It now has double glazing, central heating and a great fireplace. I think maybe I should move back in now just for the winters.

There are some good things to look forward to when the weather finally turns and winter arrives. This was one of the few good bits, along side the very warm welcome.

It looks lovely, we had a wood burner when we lived in Spain but I found out the smoke irritated me lol xxx

We have a very good coal effect gas fire, which is cosy, but the cost of it!! A arm fleecy blanket for me, however we aren't there yet. I am going to ask myself to visit Wendells in Oz this winter SMILEY

Your right annie it isn't here yet but when It gets here then we'll just have to dream about joining Wendells on that hot beach in OZ. I guess it'll take those lotto numbers to come up but stranger things have happened.

Come on lotto give us a break.

Hi Wendells, even though winters here tend to increase the risk of chest infections, I did get through the last one with only one hospital 5 day stay which was much improved on the year before.I love going over to my Dads on those long cold evenings to sit and chat in front of that log fire, its the return journey that holds the most risk when you walk out of that lovely warm house into the freezing cold and then drive home. The car heater just starts to warm up and then its out into the cold again to get into our house. All those temperature changes are not so good for me but I still risk it at least once a week to sit in front of that lovely warm fire. Life is full of risks and that is one I just have to take.

How did your break by the sea go for you and Harry, did it bring back any of his old memories of better times, I hope so and did it recharge your batteries as they must have running pretty low after the tough time you've been having.

Well, pals, here on Wednesday, a miserable day, so how is everyone? Not down I hope, but we are always here for a chat.

I don't know why missed this post Tony but I did until now!

Nothing like the sight of living flames to warm the cockles of your heart.

I lit mine on Monday evening & it was lovely. I've an open fire and use those pre formed log things that cost £2 and last about 3 hours. Probably not ecologically good but I'm not strong enough to lug a bag of smokeless fuel up the stairs. Makes me feel a bit cherished though so good for the soul.

Hope you're keeping well. peeg xx
