Well according to our news,the Goverment is looking at banning smoking cigs.altogether,& just allowing electronic cigs.
I wonder if that will work? Hmmm!

I was surprised at how well it worked in pubs and restaurants here. But I doubt it would be so easy to get a blanket ban! M

Yes can't imagen it being easy! It was quite surprising though,when the ban came in forbidding smoking in a vehicle with a child inside,how quickly people responded to that.x

I am very antismoking (ex smoker) and dont want them near me BUT if it is their choice to smoke, there should be a designated corner with a bin for stubs. Hullo, Wendells - hope that life is easier for you. love annieseed x

Wouldn't say this if I was still smoking but yep, think it would be a great idea. Surely, it's got to have a better outcome for people and maybe it would help stop the bush fires that we sometimes hear about.

Hi Lovelight,you do have a good point about the bush fires,often started by careless smokers unfortunately.
Keeping ok thanks,didn't have any exacerbations this last winter,Spring now& very warm.,unfortunately it will be a very hot summer,I think.

Getting a little more used to it ,thanks Wendells and it's slightly easier since changing to the lightweight tanks. Couldn't say much more than that though - (see post !) xxx
I've been told that electronic cigs could be bad for you because you don't know what chemical's are in them.

hello,have you read member blakey c report on cigs,grim as 1 member put,so e cigs for any1 trying to stop I think is better than the real cigs,aussies are doing more for lung probs than hear,but that's expected as we are going down hill,if e cig is bad why is uk not stopping them now,cs they want there money the government of cigs,plus not all lung disease is smoking related,bernice,

I do see your point, tho I think if tobacco were discovered today (an addictive drug that leads to early death in most cases) then it would be more illegal than Heroin. Actually heroin, cocaine, morphine etc were legal not so many years ago .... early 20th Century I think. I think its a case of should young people have a legal drug available to them, that will do them such harm.
I'm sure the only benefit to legal cigs is the amount of money made by governments in taxes and duty. .... I wonder if a ban will ever happen (personally I doubt it)

Hi postscript - talking of hard drugs - nicotine is apparently far more addictive that heroin! It took me many, many attempts to give up smoking but sadly too late. I wish it would be banned but as the tax revenue from cigs is so high - many, many milliions more per year than it takes to treat smoking related illnesses, I can't see the UK government banning cigs unless, of course, they intend to triple or quadruple the cost of ecigs by way of tax. Well wendells my son is flying out to take up his posting with the australian army on the 2/10/2013 and as a smoker I am sure he won't be too enthusiastic about this bit of news or too keen to swap to electronic ciggies. But hopefully this might deter him from the "weed" before it makes him ill. Keep us updated please as I am interested to know the outcome.

he's been in the british army overseas for twenty two years, so our relationship as always been brief home visits. SO I guess going to Oz will not make a big impact on our relastionship, it's always been mostly an internet relationship, freinds say another place for me to go on holiday.

The trouble with banning things completely is that you drive it underground and then let in organised and un-.organised crime (look at the prohibition in the USA for example), so no I am against any ban but feel I am on my own here.
That is a good point undine! I remember how at one time (still happening probably) zThere were groups of people making big bucks,by driving tobacco from North Qld,down to Victoria etc,& selling it,straight from the farms.They had a name for it,that escapes me at the moment.
There will always be black markets for substances that people want,even if they're banned. xx

I gather from your post that you are resident in Australia. I am planning to go to Oz for six weeks in January and was devastated to hear that smoking is still allowed there.Not only am I intolerant to smoke, but with my chest condition I will not last five minutes in any cafe or restaurant. Do you know when the ban is likely to come in - in time for my trip I hope.?

Hi Tamara,please relax,I was commenting on the fact that they are saying they want a complete ban,with only ecigs allowed.
But at the moment,there has been a ban on all pubs,clubs,restaurants,transport,shopping centres etc,has been for a few years now.So I'm sure you'll be ok!!
The most recent was the ban of not smoking in cars with children inside,not before time,

Many thanks for your reply re smoking in Australia.
I am working hard on my exercises so that I shall be fit for the trip, but one never knows. I have never smoked, but managed to get Bronchiectasis at age 10 and now I think I have Asthma as well. Luckily enough I led a very active life, hill walking, hiking, skiing etc until about six years age when it came back with a bang,so my life is quite limited regarding physical activities. However, I am hoping for the best and doing my best to be fit for the trip in January.

Hi Wendells, interesting about Australia going for a complete ban on smoking, I hope it goes through, I was diagnosed in 1998 with COPD when I told the consultant I had given up smoking 15 years previously, his reply was 'the damage to the lungs was done' so you can imagine how I feel about smoking, if I didn't have COPD I would be quite a healthy 73 year old, hope you are keeping well and still managing to get to the beach, Best wishes Giliann
