Hullo, Martin, I sympathise with you. I dont have depression as such but can understand just how you feel. Could you google round to look for help, also counselling? Medication is a help but you need to get to the root of your problem. We have the dark evenings upon us which dont help. I think BlakeyC gave some good advice if you look through her blogs. All the very best from Annieseedxx

Hi Martin, sorry to read your suffering, depression is a horrible illness to have. I'm taking Effexor xl it's working for me. I occasionally take a sleeping pill if I'm finding I can't sleep at night. I never take a sleeping pill on two nights together I only allow myself two a week because I don't want to get addicted to them.

If your current meds aren't helping you talk to your gp there's lots of different meds you can try. I know they can't take 4 to 6 weeks to kick in after that if there's not a good improvement in how your feeling then you need to go back again to your gp.

Don't suffer with this because with the right meds or for some people one of the talking therapies you can feel better.

Best wishes to you Martin.

Hi Martin

Anti depressants do take a while to take effect, however Ativan (as with most benzodiazapines) can be highly addictive in a short space of time and are a b****** to withdraw from, and should only be used short term.

Agree with nan re the talking therapies or Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.

Good luck Martin - hope everything improves for you.

I was on Ativan some time ago and you're right, it is very addictive. I went through a very rough time coming off it, and wouldn't take it again.

Hi Martin

Sorry to hear that you are on anti depressants.

You may be interested to hear that my sister was on Ativan which she found to be addictive and it took her two years to ween herself off it.

We are never told that these pills can cause problems when they are prescribed.

Take care and all the best

Tamara

Hi Martin, can only speak of Zoloft, have not used Ativan.

I took Zoloft for about 15 months,& found it to be great, started working in about 2 weeks.Never had any side effects with it. Had never taken that type of meds before,& was a little apprehensive, but so glad I took it,& got rid of my panic attacks, that had started, when in trouble to control breathing.

Fortunately have had no need since for it,but wouldent hesitate if I felt I needed it in the future,

Do hope things get better for you soon, not a nice place to be in.

Love Wendells xx

hello Martin, I do hope you get better soon, I sympathise with you. Please be careful with Ativan, I had a bad experience with it, it is very addictive, and not nice coming off it, but if you do it gradually its not so bad. ive not heard of the other you mentioned so I cant comment. I wish you well.
