Hi Carol, i was quite scared when I had to have this done last year but it was absolutely ok. If you feel very nervous you might like to ask your Consultant to ask your GP to provide a mild sedative. It has to be mild because you need to be awake.

Many thanks your reply has made me feel a tidge better xxx and sedatives I will ask for arnt I a wimp lol x

Hi, I would be worried too - terrified of needles. Perhaps you could make sure the nursing staff are aware of how frightened you are. And a phone call to the helpline BLF - they might be able to give you some practical advise. Having said that I am sure it will be fine. Lots and lots of luck. Take care. TAD xx

For me, personally, they give too much information, if a procedure needs doing I'd rather they just went ahead with it and involve me as little as possible.

I would also rather do without the 'running commentary' that usually accompanies the work in progress !

Stiff upper lip, carol.

I know I do keep a stiff upper lip for the sake of my children, but underneath I am terrified but hey ho I will not be selfish it has to be done, or so they say ? thank you so much for replying xx

I had a bronicalosocpy done 3 years ago I spent weeks beforehand worrying and I can say the weeks of worring were 100% worse than the bronicalosocpy. So what I'm trying to say is get the info you need and then put it away in the back of your mind do your very best not to think about until the day of the procedure.

Hi Carol

Your apprehension is to be expected BUT honestly I am the biggest wimp ever and had the same procedure done twice.

Prior to the procedure I had a sedative tablet the once on the CT table they injected some dye into my wrist. The specialist who did the biopsy was very nice and explained everything.

I asked if I could lie on my tummy so that I wouldn't see him doing the injection - he was able to do this but otherwise he would have put a light towel over my face.

After it was finished I was wheeled back to my day bed where I had to stay flat on my back for 4 hours before going home - that was the worst part as the bed was hard as a rock!

I can honestly say that I felt NO discomfort whatsoever - such a relief as I too had been terrified.

Wishing you all the very best

Jemma

Hi Carol

Forgot to mention that both my fine needle biopsies were negative.

Hi Jemma,

I am really pleased that they were negative, what did they turn out to be was it scarring or something, this they are looking at in my lung has apparently been there over six months and they think it has got a little larger !!! but they are not sure just by looking at the scan so hence the needle biopsy, I have also for a long long time been bringing up copious amounts of mucus up mainly by vomitting, which I think is caused by a really bad bad PND,

Thanks Jemma,

Hi Carol

I had a "lump" in my right lung after a bout of pneumonia and it turned out just to be scar tissue which hasn't caused me any problems. I can identify my own X Rays very easily!!!!!

I'm sure you'll be OK.

Take care

My doctor has requested a lung biopsy. I wish it could be the type with the fine needle, but instead he said they would cut a chunk. I've looked at videos on youtube of the procedure being done and now I'm very scared.

I was scared JC but in all honestly, I can only say its not pleasant, but they took good care of me and it didnt hurt just a bit uncomfortable, the worse bit was the fear I instilled into myself worrying about it, ``hope all goes well during and after take care xx
