Hi, I don't have COPD but that article looks very interesting and if the trial works will give sufferers a new and safer form of medication which can't be bad. Keep well.

I wonder if it will work on Bronchictasis. I do hope so as steroids are not the answer.

Always interesting and hopeful to read of new treatments and/or research being carried out, even though the results of the trial will not be for another couple of years and then all the subsequent approvals (or otherwise) and licensing, it could be quite a few years before it may be available. But at least we haven't been abandoned and although we may feel we don't get enough attention via research it's comforting to know things are happening that may in the future help those that are now only in the early stages of the disease. Thank you for the post. George

I have refused the steroid inhalers for years because of terrible side effects so I look forward to there being an alternative. Thanks for the info O2Trees. x

Thanks to all for your acknowledgements. These things take so long to be generally available, but worth watching since its being trialled right now and in the UK. good breathing day to all, jean

I want one now,I don't to wait for years,I need it now! I've heard there is a combi inhaler, all in one, that works well,I can't take steroids ,worse thing ever... side effects .

I take Symbicort which combines a bronchodilator with inhaled steroids which have far less side effects than oral steroids. Last time i took oral steroids I was manic to the point of only having 2 hours sleep a night, actually 13 hours in total over a week, plus much spasm coughing as they reacted badly with my reflux.

But there are lots of different combination inhalers - ask your GP, or get in touch with the BLF helpline 03000 030 555. They'll be able bring you up to speed with the available options, though of course your GP should know what would suit you as we are all different. Good luck, jean

Same as me,so I have another fight on my hands,at dr surgery,to get the medicine I need for me,I said I would pay,if I can get what I need.there so many barriers and stress to get to breathe.they don't want to give you expensive medicine, fight to get anything,so I want to pay.

If you know what you want, and what works for you, you could always ask for a second opinion if your GP won't give it to you. They seem to have to make a case for prescribing anything that costs more than the basic these days.

Yes I am going to ask to try the combi one, steroids kill me almost ,dr has seen what they do to me so I don't think it will be a prob.if I offer to pay, they will give it.lol.

What exactly is it you want that they won't prescribe?

I think I just feel very frustrated about everything ,and I here about this new inhaler and having to wait years for it ,got it in Bradford, sorry I'm being impatient
