Myself I take seretide 500 twice a day at morning and at night and find it's the best inhaler which I take.

yes i have been twice a day has well rick for 7 months and for reasons im just going try one puff at bedtime so just one a day and see how i get on just to see if i get any worse

Hi music, I was just wondering if you rang the BLF helpline after chatting online with Mark following one of your other questions a few months ago about the seretide 250/500 difference. And if so what you may have learned - or got advised. Interested cos you have me thinking now.

me too! I shift between 250 & 125 (been told to take 250 2 x daily but think it's too much).

I'm surprised someone said once per day but perhaps that's to keep you alright during daytime? peeg x

hi anna i did chat to a blf person a few months ago on the phone about something else and ask that why are some people on seretide 250 and some on 500 and was told that seretide 250 is mostly for people with asthma

I know some people might now say that there on seretide 250 and they dont have asthma but that is what i was told all very confuseing

in reply to music

ah thanks, I have emphysema and asthma. so that is probably why I'm on 500 one then. think I will stick with using it morning and night, as have had pneumonia and pleurisy in the past, will use anything that might help me not get sick again, even if I don't like it. My cough I had for years cleared up after I started using it, so I suppose it must be good for me. xx

ammmm im wondering now if i should keep at 2 puffs a day

glad your cough has gone

I reckon that if you decide to do just one puff, then you should at least ring the helpline again to hear their take on dropping an inhalation or speak to your Doctor about this before making any changes - that way at least then you would have made a properly informed decision and would not be just an experiment to see if infections become a problem to you. I want you to stay as safe as possible.

I think the leaflet in my seretide500 says that 250 is for asthma and 500 for cold. I have mine twice per day as my doc says it will give me better protection from infections.

I am 250 morning and night I do wish the numbers were bigger on dose meter

in reply to Offcut

yes I wish that too, have to put my readers on to see them. Can't even see if they have reached the red coloured numbers without glasses. :)

That,s good news music, hope one dose a day works for you. The topic about dose meter numbers being bigger is interesting as I am sure many people find them too small to read not least myself, guess it would be up to the inventors of the gadget to research the possibility of larger numbers on the meter or a lager window to allow this.

I think a good call, music

If you need it then you will find out

and if you don't, well less medicine is always best if you can (all medicine has side effects as no drugs that affect one part of our bodies can not effect others ... biology of bodies does not work like that)

so its about weighing up the pros and cons

At the moment I am avoiding steroids ... they have a lot of side effects ... but the point may come where the benefits of steroids outweigh the negatives for me

I think we have to 'test' the medicines prescribed .. just to see if they are what we need or are just what everyone with our condition is prescribed

Wow!!! our own little drug trial!

Inhaled steroids don't carry the same side effects as steroids in tablet form ripely. So not so much to worry about there.

you do read that people get cramps bone joint pain has i myself do and it must be side effects from the seretide 500 and did not know it helped stop infections and my breathing dont really seem that bad at the moment but then again winter is not here yet breathing been ok because of summer i think.

I think ripley could be right how he is thinking because i am thinking the same but will go with anna and get ok from gp first.

will let you know

thanks stitch have been taking the purple seretide 500 for 7 months now one puff in the morning and one at night..my breathing is not that bad and i have moderate copd, but just lately beside the cramps that i am getting use to now i am getting some pain in my shoulder and arm and when i stand up im clicking like mad and im only 56 and this could be age but if my meds are affecting my bones i just thought that if i could manage for a while with one puff a day instead of two it might be better for my joints and other side effects

keep well stitch

If you follow your community matron's advice you won't go far wrong. I find them a knowledgeable.

its a hard one for me stitch because the problem with my aces are that there not that bad but how worse will it get if it is down to the meds.

and this may sound stupid but if i am on the highest dose of seretide and i am not that bad on one puff a day i am thinking should i just keep to one puff then later when i get bad i still can go to a higher strengh has if i stay on the 2 puffs later when i get bad well thats it theres nothing stronger.

and even if i get a chest infection it is not that bad at the moment.

i will chat to someone again about it but can you see how i am thinking and am i wrong thinking this way. at the end of the day i am just trying to prelong things by not taking a strong med untill i need to.. and that is only because i dont think i am that bad yet but has somone said i would not experement with my own body without seeking advise...take care

I have stopped symbicort steroid inhaler. (on the advise of my consultant and SLOWLY) because of side effects and better spirometry test. Up to now, all OK. I too told the consultant that I was worried, too much medication too soon. Nothing to take if things get worse. He agreed!

I have Bronchictasis and mild COPD(asthma)
