Hi am wondering if any one else has been experiences These symptoms with there COPD or Emphysema . I have been experiencing pain coming from my neck down my right arm almost like am seizing up also a very sharp pain in the centre of my chest ! This also makes me feel dizzy and squeamish to the extent i have to lie down to recover . I've been to my GP several times now regarding this, he seems to think it could be a pulled muscle and suggests physiotherapy - Suggested I upped my dose of Seroquel ( antidepressants ) which made no sense to me at the time as I cut my dose over a year ago! So definitely don't think it has anything to do with my seroquel cut back .. Any input about this would be greatly appreciated .

Hi Mizzymac

I don't think these pains are directly related to COPD, tho if you cough a lot then you may well have pulled muscles. I know that referred pain is very common, where the damage is in one place but pain is felt elsewhere. I get this with my arthritic hips, mostly pain in thigh muscles and knees. I have found physiotherapy very useful, it might be worth having a go. I noticed an improvement almost immediately.

Hope you find a solution

Beth

Hi Mizzymac, the neck, arm pain you describe sounds like something a physiotherapist, chiropractor, osteopathy would be able to advise and treat. Chest pain may or may not be related I expect the physio can advise on this.

Has your GP put in a referral to the physiotherapist for you? I would take up that opportunity.

Not sure why the doc upped your anti depressants, although some anti depressants do work as a muscle relaxant also at a different dose.

Hope you get some relief real soon.

Take care BC

Hi Missymac, reading your symptoms brought back memories of years ago when I suffered the exact same - go back to your doctor and get a referral to a physio - my problem stemmed not from a pulled muscle, but from a trapped nerve in my neck! The manipulation and exercises did help.

I'd like to thank you all for responding to my post ! Maybe i should visit my doctor again and request he sends me to the physiotherapist like he suggested in the first place . I didn't feel that I did pull a muscle so therefore refused him once he suggested I go. I would of put it down to me having pleurisy two month ago but my symptoms have been there long before i caught pleurisy .

I never thought of that BlakeyC . I left my doctors surgery thinking aye right noway am going back up in my meds took me long enough to cut back and wasn't a very nice experience for me neither - was on 5 a day cut back to 2 at night and felt much better for it . Maybe i should listen to doctor try it for 2 weeks see if it does ease the pain .

Thanks Mizzy mac xx

I think it's a good idea. If you have a trapped nerve then as nowheeze says the pain can be in any number of places. I think it might take longer than two weeks tho, depending on the problem. I'm a lot better now but I will be going back in a couple of weeks, for a 'top up'

Let us know how you get on (be prepared for a wait before your first appointment..... physios are one of the areas suffering from NHS cut backs ..... but I reckon it will be worth the wait)

All the best

I also suffer terribly with neck, chest and lower back pain, my doctor sent me for my heart checking which revealed some calcification of left artery. now on low dose asperin and colestoral tablets the pain has got a lot better.
